Tom Petty has apparently died. TMZ reporting that he was just pulled off life support. No brain activity after being found earlier in full cardiac arrest.

Anything that the only source is fucking TMZ is something I take with a grain of salt.

I don't think it's a hoax, not in the same way where some hi-larious internet prankster tells us that someone has died. It seems pretty clear that Tom Petty had a very serious problem and maybe people assumed the worst based on the initial reports.

He had an MI, went on life support, and has a DNR order.  If the report is correct, that's tough to recover from.

Deserves its own thread.  One of the best musicians of all times, and an awesome human being on top of that.  How the hell do people like Trump live longer than people like him?

I know I should be more upset about all the death in Vegas, but this hits hard.  Listened to all his works in my adolescence, and saw him in concert multiple times.

Wait, I thought that one was a hoax ?

The initial reports of him dying were premature 'scoops' via TMZ.

But yeah he died last night.

I listened to a shit-ton of his music back in the day, and he was a huge influence on my attitude then. Southern Accents still ranks as one of my all time favorite albums. He was a literate and smart southern rocker, and damn it's sad to see him go.

Her had a cardiac event on Sunday night and was, reportedly, brain dead upon arrival at the hospital.  It seems like they took a day to double check everything, give his family a chance to say goodbye, and let nature take its course once he was off the machines.

I really appreciated his music - Freefalling, as cliché as it is for that to be my favorite Petty song, was my favorite.

2020 will be the year I gave up all hope.

One of the few artists whose discography I can listen to more than "just the hits."  Amazes me that he was only 66, putting him in his 20s when the Heartbreaker's first album hit gold back in the days you needed talent rather than image to make it.  Amazing, and he'll be missed.

Never liked his voice or music which will probably raise the ire of everyone in this thread, but I fully respect his contributions to the genre and his talent. Similar to how I view Clapton...

I don't really like much classic rock, but Petty is good.  This is my favorite:

You got lucky

Mostly because of the iconic, 80s, weird ass post apocalyptic video, I think, but I still listen to this song quite a bit.

I actually played "Free Falling" on my Radio show last Monday without any idea he was ill. Loss of a genuine talent.

While he was deservedly overshadowed by Prince during the Hall of Fame performance of "as my Guitar Gently weeps, there was zero animosity on stage and Petty was happy to take a back seat to Prince when the time came, and you can see a few grins being shown between them, as everyone knew this was a legendary performance. Great to watch today.

Ha, nice.  I had totally forgotten about that video.  His videos where always really damn random and very 80's.

Yer So Badwas always one of my favorite songs.  Video is funny but weird as hell.

I was lucky enough to see him a few months ago. Wildflowers will always be an album that brings pictures to my mind of my glory days, late teens/early twenties when life was carefree and good. It's good to be king.

Thanks for all the great music, Tom.
