This is a new series starring Tom Hardy (also an exec. producer), produced by Ridley Scott and Steven Knight (creator of Peaky Blinders, writer of Eastern Promises and other stuff). It started on FX 2 weeks ago and I just caught the pilot (1:20 initial episode with commercials). Gothic 1800's England setting, Tom Hardy as a badass crazy man returned to England from darkest Africa upon news of his father's death. The family has a history of madness and the father has bequeathed a previously thought to be worthless slab of land in the Americas to the son. The East India Trading Company wants said worthless land for some reason. Looks like there's both supernatural elements (or just the son's insanity) as well as lots of violence. TrailerFirst episode was good but it's a slow burn establishing the characters. Worth watching.

You call it an accident. I call it justice.

I thought about it when I saw the trailers, but passed on it when the first episode hit... which fits since I hardly watch any tv anymore.

Watched the first 3 eps last night, really enjoyed it. Particularly the way Tom Hardy manages to make 'Good day, sir' into an unmistakable 'Fuck. You.' I think the hints at supernatural shennanigans are going to turn out to be just in his mind.

Just ways for a really damaged person to try to deal with his trauma and the world around him.

Tom Hardy is just killing it. It's worth watching for his portrayal of a bad ass crazy person alone.

I haven't seen Bronson, but yeah Fury Road is one of my favorite films of all time. And I liked Hardy's Bane.
Still, this is a different type of crazy bad ass.

So far so good and hopefully the plot won't get too convoluted. As for Hardy the thing reminded me of the most:

Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

I hope someone does a super cut of just Hardy grunting.
Overall, still enjoying this show.

One of the ads for next weeks show said "one more episode before the season finale". I didn't realize this was to be a multiple season show, seems like Hardy would be too busy to commit to that.

Kind of wish they'd lean less on the score. At this point it's just kind of obnoxious. Also I don't know what they were going with for the Prince Regent, but he looks like he's from the Jim Henson Creature Shop or a Bethesda game. It's really unsettling.

It's, uhh, not exactly an entirely inaccurate portrayal. Drank too much, ate too much and suffered multiple consequences of both.

Yah I know he suffered from a lot of obesity related diseases, but the make up is terrible. He looks animatronic. Why not just hire a fat actor instead of dressing someone up to look like Fat Bastard or Mr Creosote?

But then you wouldn't have Mark Gatiss in the show.
