So I am waiting out shipment of my cargo ebike. Heres the thing if the electric assist cuts out at 20 mph and it has less than 750 watts it is a bicycle. That is the federal law Local laws may apply. But no license plate, no license in your pocket. And if your going 18 mph on a bike it feels really fast and you get where your going quick enough. Well google ebike, if you want to see what I sprung for google Radwagon. For the price and the capability I think it's out of the park. Discuss, What do you think about this teck?

I think it's really cool.

Did you get one that is pedal-assist or has it's own throttle?

Edit: Just saw you mentioned the RadWagon. Friend has one of those, he loves it. They put a kid carrier on the back and Mom rode with the bigger kids to take them to school every morning.

I don't get it.  You can easily do 20 mph on a hybrid bicycle.  Why do you need a motor?

For $1500, it had better haul my fat ass faster than 20mph.

Really not about speed at all but mobility especially for senior citizens who want to do some bike tours but couldn't handle it on a normal bike. Downside is that those things are quite heavy and accidents thus tend to be more fatal due to more mass being involved.

Small 1- or 2- cylinder gasoline engine in a kit achieves the same speeds, for much longer range (depends on gas tank), and for about $300.

You can find EXCELLENT noise-reducing ear protection for the remaining $1200, I'm sure.

As for the noise affecting others, it's a good alert that you're there so they won't hit you because they didn't see you.

I thought the same thing, but if he's a spambot, he's doing a bad job of it.  Plus, there's posts in the gaming sub-forum dating back to the start of the year.  That's one hell of a long game for a spambot to play.

Ok, well to answer some voiced questions. Ya I was hal, I forgot my password and just made a new account. Now glad to meet you about me I am 64 years old, a disabled veteran (petty officer in sub service, but that was long long time ago in a land very far away). Now what I ordered and may receive by Friday is a cargo bike. Now an ebike needs no license plate, no insurance and no license in your pocket. It is like a bicycle you would buy for your child. To be an ebike it cant be assisted above 20 mph. It cant have more than 1 bhp (750 watts or .75 KW). Class 1 ebikes do not have a throttle, it is just pedal assist. Class 2 ebikes have a throttle. What I have bought has a throttle that can be turned off. So it is like class 1.5 or something. Guys these things are exploding. If I drain my battery it costs 6 cents. Ya I said that 6 cents to recharge and get another 40 miles (depends on assist mode and YMMV). But to ignore these is to miss the boat.

Yes.

My former coworker made one of these about 5-6 years ago and upped the battery voltage on it. It went slightly faster than normal. His goal was to bike from Mountain View to our work via bike paths and charge up once he arrived. It worked pretty nice. You take your life in your hands just walking around here at my new job much less biking, forget about biking to work.

I have to admit that the range is significantly more than I thought it would be, and I can see how it could bridge the gap for a lot of scenarios where cars are either overkill or impractical, but the use of scooters would be either unsafe or prohibited (without requiring that you turn your transportation means into your freaking lifestyle, ala regular bikes).

Why are you going into South Atlanta anyway? Are you on drugs? Are you buying drugs? The only other reason is the Airport, and you can't do this there.

Wrong neighborhood is relative.  I probably would need an entire roll cage outside of Midtown.  Then there are the pickup trucks with the giant rebel flags out where I live.

We have those here, upstate NY is about as redneck as the south in a lot of places. We particularly enjoy the guy who works at McD's with the Trump sticks, massive rebel flag on his rusty old pickup. I wonder what his many black coworkers think about that as they pass it each day and have to work with him.

I was just in Israel for a week and these were all over Tel Aviv. I didn't see any pedestrian-ebike incidents but there bikes are fast relative to pedestrian and deathly silent as well.  Tel Aviv has weell-defined bike lanes, though, so it probably works well.

So, received, assembled. Front tire /wheel seems fine but back tire is dragging a little. It is ride able as it is but I want all I can get out of it so I will try to align the rear brake to the disc. I will report back as I learn more but these things are impressive. To try to put some perspective on this the manufacturer claims 40 miles  range. Ya If a skinny 15 year old girl  pedaled 100% of the time in assist mode 1 ma bee with flat ground and no wind or even a tailwind. But in reality a 64 year old totally out of shape sh-leap can count on 7 miles out and 7 miles back with very little peadiling.  And that puts a lot more things in my reach and a bit of exercise to boot. And did I mention it costs 6 cents (that's in calif the highest costs there is ) here in Ohio it is probably 3 to 4 cents. But I mean 30 miles for 3 cents? This does not make sense to you?

Only if it will also do 0-60 in less than 7 seconds.

So I did the align the brake to the disc thing. For those that do not know. Loosen the brake caliper to the frame bolts. Apply the brake (I used ty wraps but bulgy cords or rubber bands could be used here). With the brakes applied tighten the caliper to frame bolts. Remove the pressure on the brake. It worked a treat. But it's calling for rain Today and for the whole week. Again I am 64 years old and out of shape if I see some blue sky I am gonna circle the block twice and call it a start. I am really excited about this as this will let me reach out a lot further and get some exercise as well.
