This starts on AMC this Sunday.  90 minute episode.

Looks pretty good so far and with Rogen running it I have a feeling they will be pretty faithful to the comics.

Trailer here.

It felt a lot more like Seth Rogen than Garth Ennis but I'll be sure to check the next episode too.

Tried watching this via AMC's website yesterday but the quality was awful.  FYI.

Disappointed. The reviews were sky high, but I though they flubbed the pilot.  I'm going to save a few episodes and then binge to see if it works better but I quite at the 45 minute mark on the 90 minute pilot.

2020 will be the year I gave up all hope.

Yup it was slow.  I also worry about having the series set all in one locale.  Instead of the cross country chase and exploration that's in the story, this could devolve into a soapy-emo-TwinPeaks-with-more-gore show.

They are considering the first season of Preacher to be the prequel to the comics.  The first season will end where the comics start.  They are doing this to give viewers backstory and probably so they could save some money by doing the first season in a central location.

I liked it. It was fun. Irish dude is my new favorite character. I should also tell you, I have no fucking clue what was going on. I didn't think it was slow, but it looks like a cross between Supernatural and, fuck I don't know, Blacklist? I can't figure out if the specops guys are government, or some international secret priesthood army, or what the fuck.

Given some of the things that happen in the first episode it's a bit of a stretch to call it a prequel to the comics. It just doesn't have the framing device that the first arc in the comics has of Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy discussing how they all ended up in the situation they're in.

I love Cassidy, too.  He was Woody in This is England! and Rudy in Misfits.  Two really, really good shows.  He just has one of those faces and his delivery is pretty much always spot on.  I also liked the first episode of this show.  They do need to pick up the pace a bit but that's about the only criticism I have.  I also heard that if this goes well they might pick up the idea of doing Lobo again, which would be awesome.  They keep trying to do something with that comic but keep failing to see it through.

Also really enjoyed this, thought it was a very strong first episode. I know nothing about the comics. Cassidy/vampire dude was great. I don't understand how anyone can think it was slow, WTF do you want, Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom crammed into every 10 minute segment? There was loads going on!

Added, without hesitation, to the weekly watch list.

The complaints are that the comic starts off with them on the road and not in one location like this season looks like it will be.

They've confirmed the whole season is set in Anvil for budgetary reasons.

Loved the first episode, thought the pacing was fine. Loved the random campiness at times.

As for Cassidy and the comment about understanding him... is that an American ear thing? It was a strong accent, but sheesh, it wasn't like it was Brad Pitt in a Guy Richie movie.

It's just familiarity I reckon. I had no trouble with his accent (neither do I have any problems with Brad Pitt's terrible Romany attempts) but the first couple of episodes of The Wire I watched I had to put subtitles on until I got used to it, and even by the end I still occasionally had to re-listen to Bubbles or Snoop.

I think it helps if you watched him in Misfits. It does sound like he's talking with a permanent fat lip, but you get used to it.

I turn on the subtitles  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?   It's helpful to know they intended this to be prequel-esque, thanks.  Still hooked and plan to watch.  Lord knows it's going to get up steam as the story takes off.

Not actually American, english is my second (though most used) language.  Not one single word coming out of his mouth made even the slightest bit of sense, even the closed captioning had me going "bullshit, he did not say anything anywhere near that".  I did understand his spanish though :P

I liked it. My memories of the comic are vague (I couldn't remember what Tulip's name was, just that it was a flower). I'm not sure about the guy they have playing Jesse - he looks the part but I'm not sold on him yet. I am disappointed that it'll all be in Anvil this season but at least it will explain the backstory better than the way the comics dropped you in the middle.

The second episode was great but I could see how it might be a bit confusing for someone who hasn't read the comics (like you might wonder what the first scene  has anything to do with the rest of the story).

So, for those that have read the comic, is Preacher aware of supernatural shit in the world beyond his acquisition of The Voice of God, or whatever is happening with him? Or was he just a small time crook that decided to drop the life for his hometown?

I started reading the comics last week, about 1/2 way through them atm, and shit is a lot more complicated than either of those options. Let's just say that he was more than just a small time crook and that his back story is important (and fucked up) but that his awareness of larger forces changes drastically throughout the course of the story.

...and the tv-series didn't start at the same point as the comic did (as far as I can remember, it's been years since I read it) to further muddle the issue.

Last night's opening angel fight was brilliant.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

Just started watching this last night. If I didn't know the comic I would think this was just absolute gibberish. The wife, thus far, is not enjoying it.

It's seriously messing with the comic's version of events, and I was very disappointed with the scene with the Adelphi explaining to Jesse about Genesis. Show, don't tell! I know the budget is limiting but when you reduce that description to a couple of blokes chatting in a diner it loses a *lot*.

Time will tell, but I think the death-grip on the purse strings is doing this no favours.

The money thing is the same shit that happened with Walking Dead at the beginning.  AMC wants to see how much advertising money they get before they open up their wallets more.

Haven't watched the most recent episode, but it seems to be going nowhere at a breakneck pace so I'm very confused by it all. And the characters are all so oppressive and horrible. I probably would've given up on it but with The Americans and GoT over there's nothing else on.
