I went to Peter's "Lessons Learned" talk for Fable yestterday where he announced that they were doing the PC version with a lot of the content they cut from the game. What I found most interesting from the talk (aside from that!) was it seemed that basically Lionhead began working on the game long before Peter really had a "design" for the game. They were basically trying to do a game while still in the research/concept stage, which he admitted that he would not (and coult not) ever attempt again. There were so many details in the concept stage they just glossed over, things like the UI and the combat system and so on, that just wound up taking a whole lot of time during production. And without the help of Microsoft, the game might not ever have shipped.
But I think he has learned his lesson.

Without the help of Microsoft, the game may not have sucked. I hope the lesson he learned was not to shit on his games for a console.
But then, what's the excuse for Black and White?
Molyneux has sunk extremely far in my estimation, I put his stock lower than Spector or Garriot in the market of game designers who used to make kick ass games but haven't in many years (and Reynolds with his RTS fetish gets an honorable mention here).
Give me some Bullfrog era shit, man. Lionhead can give me head imo.

I dug Fable. I paid full price ($50) for Fable when it was released. I thought it was a great game, even though it didn't necessarily live up to the hype. I'm pissed as hell that all this "new" content isn't available for the X-Box, and that if I want it all, I'll have to buy the whole goddamn game again AND play through the parts I have seen again just to see the new content. It essentially says, "The console game and its subsequently better profits are being used to fund the development of the REAL game. SUCK IT, CONSOLE FAGS!"
Now if he announced that an expansion was going to be sold for the X-Box that had the new content, I'm there, so long as I don't have to pay full price for it.

The only way I'd get Fable for the PC...if there were a trade-in program.

Exactly. Let me trade-in my copy of Fable for say half off a copy for the PC.

Exactly. Let me trade-in my copy of Fable for say half off a copy for the PC. I bought Fable for $40 and the trade-in a week and a half later was $35. The game was far far far too short. Would I like to see the extra content? Yes. Do I want to pay for the whole game all over again and trudge through all the stuff I already did? No.

Do you really think that anyone who paid full price for Fable would buy a goty edition or something? $10 for an xbox live download, now something like that would work. Box copy - not so much.

Yes, I'd be willing to pay $10 for the live download and then rent the game for another week to check it out. Well, maybe pay $3 to rent it for 2 days if the new content is only 30% more than the original.

Personally I'd say that if you paid for the XBox version you'd be morally justified to just torrent the PC version. No one should be expected to shell out twice for a game they already own.

I thought what everybody loved about Fable was how open-ended character developement was, giving it a sense of excessive replayability and therefore making the replaying of the game just a natural thing.
This announcement is nothing but a good thing for me, as I don't have the xbox version.

The replayability, at least when I played it, wasn't there. It was pretty much the same stuff over again. You were forced into certain character paths no matter what and you were never truly let to run wild doing anything you want to whatever or whomever.

Here's my question: How will anyone without a controller even play the PC version of Fable, what with it being an action oriented third-person game with a non-locked camera?
Also: I'm still buying it, since the mod community will be all over it, even if there's no development tools for it. My first request is a way to lock your age at a certain year, so you can level up enough to get the good stuff without your guy ending up a 120 year-old steroid addict.

SUCK IT, CONSOLE FAGS! You said it. They should have done the same to DX2 and KoTOR2 - just leave consoles with half-assed games and release full game on PC. This way if you want to be 'junior' gamer you can play console titles and not fag up them up for PCs.

Well, 'open ended' meant you either had horns or you had a halo. My memory is hazy, but there are about 30 or so spells, 10 of which are useless, and the remaining 20 were incredibly overpowered. You could have about 15 or so, total, and if you just read the spell descriptions you could tell which worked and which didn't. In the entire 7 hours it took me to beat the game, I never died or came close to dying. There aren't difficulty settings.

Fable could have replayability, except that there just were not enough quests. Most of the differences would be choosing polar opposite choices on the main quests of the game. The other problem was that once you got through the main storyline, you were supposed to be able to continue playing. And you could... only you couldn't get any new quests from the guild, because it was destroyed, and entire parts of the game were no longer accessible. So you could essentially run around and poke NPC's until that got boring.
It was still a great game, IMO, but it didn't have the replayability or open-endedness it claimed. It went about halfway there. Whether that was because it was built on a console, and thus had storage issues, or because it had to be put out to make back some money, I don't know. My bet is going to be on it had to be put out quickly to make some money, considering this move.
Sinji, stop trying to fag up threads on console games with your "CONSOLES SUXx0RZ!1" stupidity. A game's a game, and there are great games on all platforms.

Please put spoiler alerts, I'm looking forward playing Fable on PC and you probably just gave away whole ending to me. With regards consoles - I have nothing against consoles in general, they are not my thing but they generally do not affect me in any direct way. You won’t catch me posting in PSP thread or NBA2006 live threads ‘faging’ them up. On other hand I hate X-box since it STRONGLY affects PC gaming and not in a good way. Thing that pisses me off to no end is that it seems to be more profitable to take potentially good PC title and CANNIBALIZE it so it can work on X-box and do nothing for PC release. I’m sore that number of potentially good PC RPGs went for X-box, had to go through major feature/specs cuts and ended up half-assed games when ported, among them sequel to my favorite RPG of all times DX2. So yes, I have issues and I’m angry, bitter and ranting about it at each opportunity I get. Isn’t this what this site is about?

Haemish's complaint is one of those cases where when it doesn't happen to you, you don't care about it. For instance, in WoW: If you're not on oine of the 20% of servers that is down all of the time, you think everything is just fine. Or, if crippling bugs don't ruin your experience with the game, you could care less about them when other people complain about them.
I don't have an Xbox, so this announcement kicks ass for me. If I had bought it originally I'd be pissed, but I'm a selfish bastard so I'm pretty happy that I'll be able to play a better version of the game on PC without dishing out cash for the xbox version.

I hope on the PC they can greatly reduce the number of level transitions. One level in Fable was just a tunnel. A SHORT, NO DOORS, NO BRANCHING, POINT A TO POINT B MOTHERFUCKING TUNNEL. It was totally absurd.

I agree. The reason I never finished it is I felt like I spent more time on a loading screen than actually playing.

The hype is still strong in this one.
There's just way too much excitement here for this announcement. Come back down to earth please? Even if the PC version Fable contains a bit more content, the game is woefully simplistic at it's core. It's a button mashing action RPG --- Nothing new to see here. Perhaps a good waste of time, but nothing more.
If you're gonna get excited about this, then there's no reason to not get excited about every other action RPG that's made to the PC platform. It's just not worthy of all of this attention.

I do that now and again. It gets old, but it never stops being true. Merely price vs performance, imo. I prefer performance and a quality experience, and it's only natural that when the majority chooses cheap prices (yay walmart) and that negatively affects the quality of the 'performance' options, I'll bitch about it. Fable sucked untold amounts of ass, it was a shitty game, even beyond the console crap that dragged it down (because it was almost unplayable at a stretched 480i when I had just put down Gothic II at 16:9 720p). It was a lame linear rpg with a shitty story and decent combat mechanics and the only character 'customization' was that you got horns or a halo and maybe the villagers might yell at you differently (meaning loop their three lines of dialogue for evil or good). No, actually, it's impossible to leave out how much the console fucked up this game's design, when even Petey admits it. From the carbon-copy npcs to small world areas (and loading times) to...you know what, even the console limitations can't make up for how repetitious the supposedly 'vast' amount of lines in the game became, rather quickly. You have played Fable right? How would a mouse work with Fable outside of the menus? Mouselook, WASD. You have played pc games, right? ;) I hope on the PC they can greatly reduce the number of level transitions. One level in Fable was just a tunnel. I thought I had mentioned that here, but I guess I didn't. But yeah. A single hallway, like 20 feet long, no adornments, rock walls, two doors. I had to walk away from the console, alternating between tears and laughter. So sad, so hilarious, so utterly useless. Someone made a decent amount of money designing that "level".
