SAN DIEGO -- A man is in serious condition at UCSD Medical Center after running into a Point Loma home through glass doors and then being hit by two cars, 10News reported.
Reeve Peterson and his wife watched the man crash through their glass back door and then out through their glass front door.
"He ran through the door while we're sitting out there having our coffee. (He) just ran through the door," said Reeve Peterson.
Police said the man then jumped into neighbors' yards, grabbed an axe and a pick and ran off.
Officers confronted him but he ran into traffic on Catalina Street, where he was hit by a car.
San Diego Police Sgt. Jeff Fellows said, "He ran into (traffic and) was hit by an oncoming car -- a military personnel driving to work at the base."
The man's identity is not known. Officers are investigating whether drugs or mental illness played a role.
