This is where we take a dump about the patch now until it's released?

Since several of us are watching the "2.3" thread for signs of it being available, it would be a community kindness to not update that thread until such time.

You can talk about whatever in here.  WoW, UO, sports.  Think of it as the Politics of the Diablo 3 subforum.

Well, they did patch the battle.net client / game launcher for me the other day, so I was hopeful for about 30 seconds.  But it wasn't 2.3.    Estimates are September 4 at the earliest, based on current PTR bugs that still need to be fixed, and the fact that they'd have to give at least a 2 week notice before terminating Season 3 (cause that's what they did with Seasons 2 and 1, apparently).

Maintenance patch tomorrow, 7 am - 11 am Pacific time, according to the Battle.net client.  Can't find notes on what the patch actually contains, anywhere.  3 hours might be them pre-releasing the art assets for Sescheron, not sure.

This is my first season since I quit shortly after launch.  With Season 4 coming out on 8/28, what am I playing for anymore (other than, er, fun)?  I have a 70 DH with 115 paragon and full set of Unhallowed Essence and RoRG (and a few other assorted set pieces and artifacts).  Not exactly a ladder buster, but seems mostly finished with only 2 weeks left...

I've been stockpiling artifacts with special abilities to DE on the new cube... am I doing this right?  What's the end-of-season exit strategy that I don't know about?

Nothing. I've quit playing in anticipation. I've got a 100+ Crusader with 4/6 Roland's and the BIS shield. Yes I could get a better weapon and upgrade pieces based on whatever, but I don't care.

Yeah, I saw somewhere some mention of 2500 paragon levels and just thought, zoinks.

Guess I'll just play POE and Marvel for the rest of the month.

Oh please.  why so serious?

I will never be a ladder warrior, but with some toons the moment I realize that the best way to damage something is the least fun? I'm done with that character for the time being. I got there with the Crusader. I like the way he's constructed with the shield bash build, but it will never be much more than a T5 thing.

Stupid question: is this game still always online?  I think I remember hearing they chopped that out of the console version but were planning on keeping it in for the PC or something, but I can't find anything newer than mid 2014 about it.

It's exactly that. Console is online or offline; PC is online required. No plans to change that I've heard.

Yeah, there's a log-in screen before you can even choose which character to play.  They're stored on the Blizzard servers, along with the list of all the gear, money, and achievements that they have.  There's also a server ping bar, and if you get disconnected, you get dropped from the game.  When you log back in, a new game session is randomized and generated for you, which means that the zone you were in is fully re-populated and the geography may be different.

Shame Online Only wasn't at the same time.  I guess it's integral to the game.  Like, you know, the AH.

I fought this for years. The battle's over and lost. Games are no longer "owned" when they are streamed and updated on services. And I'm okay with that now where I was more vehement against it before. The availability of internet connections isn't getting smaller, and the streaming idea is encompassing more and more entertainment. $50 to me to have a game for however many years is honestly not that much to ask, nor is it that arduous for me to access it online.

Ah I see what you mean now. Yes, I agree their PR is ridiculous. I would have much rather they told people it's a DRM issue.

I just want them to enable gamepad use on the PC so it's easier to play on the couch.  It's obviously in the engine since it's on there for consoles.

Yeah, it sucks that we can't map the left-click and right-click attacks to other buttons (incl. gamepad buttons).

Although, the console versions have auto-target, PC does not, so that may be an issue too, considering that your mouse pointer has to be over an enemy in order for the attack buttons to actually work; the console auto-locks on the (nearest?) enemy and all the button presses are aimed at it.

I have managed to play from the couch by connecting my PC to the TV and adding a wireless keyboard and mouse.  V-sync off, set max frame rates in-game to 60, and make sure that the primary display in Windows is still your monitor, with the TV being just a mirror, otherwise the relatively long HDMI cable, and the slow TV response times will cause noticeable input lag.

I'd assume that the control interface is separate from the main engine, but I'm not a game developer so it might all be one big pile of GOTO.
