I'm with Schild. ID4 was awesomely bad from the start so it's not like making a sequel is destroying our childhood. They need to go big though and I don't know if you can without the Fresh Prince.

Just another blockbuster I won't bother to watch. There are dozens of them by now.

I suspect the reason this sequel will not ruin the childhood of almost anyone here, is that despite the original being almost 20 years ago, most of us were not children.

Also, there's probably nothing more damaging to your childhood memories of ID4 than watching ID4.

Quoted for truth. I love ID4 in all it's cheesiness. However without Will Smith I think it's going to lose some of it's name value. Considering the shit he's put out lately I am shocked he didn't jump aboard this, it would have made it an instant summer blockbuster.

Good parts of ID4:
"Welcome to Earf"
Bad parts of ID4:
Every other part

Movie will be about Goldblum and family trying to survive the environmental apocalypse caused by a hundred New York sized metal bricks crashing into the earth.

Quoted for truth. This movie is filled with plot holes as big as the flying saucers in it. It has stock, generic characters. Cheesy dialogue. Overly jingoistic images and speeches. It's basically just a 70s disaster movie with aliens instead of a burning building or a crashing plane. And I still love it. I won't claim it is good in an objective way but I find it impossible not to watch the movie and enjoy the hell out of it.

I saw and enjoyed ID4 twice in the theater when it came out. It's sell-by date is way past. It was not a good movie in any way, shape or form other than a good example of how to make a bashitillion dollars at the box office on the cinematic equivalent of goddamn cotton candy. It revels in its cheesy shittiness unashamedly and I applaud it for that.
However, I have no desire to ever see it again, and I sure as fuck don't want to see a sequel.

I enjoyed the original, bad as it was. I still watch it when it comes on. I just wish they had more shots of cities being blowed up reel gud by the alien ships.
I'm dubious if this will be as gloriously bad. It might be bad-bad instead.
