This began as post-apocalyptic 90210 and was shit as shit gets. That's changed. It's now The Hunger Games meets Battlestar Galactica, in a good way. Two seasons in.

I gave it another look, based on this article doing the rounds: Here's Why You Should Be Watching 'The 100'

The season 1 pilot was directed by a specialist "pilot director", who did not continue. It will try to eat your sci-fi soul and you will cringe. But within a few episodes, the blood and dirt sets in. Everyone's 90210 hair becomes Walking Dead hair. By episode 7, I was in it for the long haul. There's some good writing and acting.

Been watching this from the start.  It's really pretty good and one of the darkest shows on TV right now.

I saw season 1 on Netflix while painting some rooms. It was enjoy able, but flawed. Is season 2 much better than season 1?

2020 will be the year I gave up all hope.

I'm only up to episode 4 of season 2 (9 episodes of the season are available so far). I'm enjoying it.

The big mystery reveal at the end of season 1 leads to a set of bigger reveals, and a diverse set of connected storylines. The show has continued as grimy sci-fi, mostly far from the teen romance start. There's been some Half-Life and Fallout vibes.

Interesting.  Several months ago my wife suggested we watch this "together", and after watching five minutes of whatever episode she was watching (early season 1) I concluded that I'd rather watch someone punch me in the cock.  The premise seemed like something I would like, but the execution stank of something trying to tap the same demographic that watches shows about vampires and feelings and stuff.

Might have to give it another look.

It is CW so there is always going to be some romantic tension, however it doesn't really take away from them show.  As for the first season you have to get like 4-5 episodes in before you start to see the real tone of the show.

There have been some good moments, but CW is never gonna get another Supernatural at this rate. I'm on season 2 now. It's highly watchable but it barely qualifies as guilty pleasure. The entire main cast of this show is a bunch of no-talent hacks. The acting is genuinely terrible.

I gave it another look.  Yeah, it is watchable.  I don't think it is bad acting across the board, it's just that the bad stuff tends to stick out.  It isn't quite as much angsty teenager bullshit as I was afraid of (though there are moments).  Also, people who like to pick apart every little unlikely detail or inplausible sci-fi need not bother, this isn't the show for you.

It's totally watchable. Last night's episode had about two or three little emotional gut punches that left me appreciating the writing.

After reading this thread I gave season 1 a shot.  It starts pretty terribly but by the episode with the hallucinogens it picks up.  I think the biggest problem this show has is that it is on the CW.  If this was a show on AMC or maybe even Syfy it'd be great.  I got a kind of Battlestar Galactica vibe with the Ark scenes (though Lt. Gaeta being up there probably helps push that).

There are episodes that flirt with brilliance, but it's like the show just can't push past the fact that it's on network television and so it still has a kind of blandness that I can't put into words.  I'll keep watching it, but it still feels like a missed opportunity.

I think you've got it. When it really needs to rub your face in how much of an authoritarian nightmare a century and a half of rigid control in a hostile environment with no margin for error would create...it's on network TV, and can't go there.

Supernatural seasons 1 to 5 were admirable for the time, but it fell off the tracks in later years. I gave up on it a few seasons too late. Did it get better? Seasons 6 to 8 were far worse than Arrow and Flash have been, and I enjoyed the last few episodes of season 1 of the 100 far more than those season 6 to 8 episodes of Sapernatural. CW is far better than it was 4 years ago in my book.

2020 will be the year I gave up all hope.

The show did improve once you realized they were willing to kill off what seemed to be main cast members, at least gave it some level of gravity. It's still full of ridiculous plot holes throughout, but its reasonably entertaining.

This is easily the darkest show on TV for me.  It is so surprising it is on the CW.  The show has to it's flaws but damn is it good, and filled with some nice eye candy.

Just say fuck it and ignore the plot holes though if you want to enjoy it. The events in the last episode were so nonsensical, the writers had to take to public forums to defend it and try to explain the logic.

That was a pretty great way to end the season.  I like that they manage to wrap things up on a regular basis rather than stringing people along with the same storylines.  And yeah, lots of plot holes and behavior that didn't make a lot of sense for some of the characters, but oh well.  It's still entertaining and very grim.

I binge watched season one and two this last week. I'm glad they shied away from the love triangle CW formula crap from season one. Looking forward to season three.
