Patch Notes

Notes from my playthrough of a greater rift today.
- They nerfed the hell out of Conduit Pylon. It's basically just a damage buff now, instead of 30 seconds (or whatever) of god mode.
- They buffed the hell out of Shield Pylon. It gives damage reflection now. It's awesome. I melted two simultaneous elite packs with it.
- Speed Pylon got a fun buff -- you can run through Waller walls, and it acts as a knockdown.
- Pylons in general are more likely to show up. That, or I got lucky, because there were multiple pylons in all of the rifts I ran today.
- Greater Rift mob density is way higher. This is a huge buff -- I got two levels farther today then I have ever managed before.

Elsewhere, they altered the Hydra spell, making it attack more often, but lowering the damage per attack. This wasn't an obvious buff or nerf, so it seems like it evened out.

Significantly increased the amount of Hydra attacks per cast
Attack Speed now affects how fast each Hydra head attacks
Weapon damage reduced from 195% to 165%

That's a shame about Conduit, I always loved that.

I would imagine they've probably upped the Pylon appearances to get better data on how they're working.

My toon has Nemesis Bracers, so I get an elite pack whenever I pop a shrine or pylon.
Conduit used to melt that group, and leave me time to run around and clear out the next few clumps of mobs.
Now it barely lasts long enough to kill the one group. It helps, but I'd rather have any of the others at this point.

It's such an odd choice. Everyone thought Conduit pylons were fun. Everyone.

It was done because of the ladders and seasons - the top slots were entirely dependent on the luck of getting lots of conduits in G.Rifts.

So take them out of ladders and seasons.

Or, better yet, FUCK ladders and seasons.

Yeah, just take them out of seasonal games, or even just make it so they don't spawn in Greater Rifts.  I actually like seasons, it gives me a reason to "alt" in this game, which I like.  But why change something 99% of your players like for the 1% who give even a small shit about who is at the top of the ladder.  Oh right, it's Blizzard.

If my one experience with post-patch greater rifting is indicative of what they're going to be like now, I'm not going to miss Conduit, frankly.

Like I said before, I got two levels farther than I ever have before. That's due mostly to the increased mob density, but also in part because they turned Shield and Speed into useful offensive pylons.

Now that I think about it, the old Conduit with the new mob density would be a little OP.

Coincidentally I stopped playing around when ladders & seasons where introduced. Mostly I'd just got bored, but I was also pretty certain, given Blizzard's track record, that non-ladder stuff would get fucked because of it.

They are completely incapable of having different rules for different groups of players, whether it's pvp/pve or seasonal/non-seasonal. It's just not how they do things.

Yep. "E-sports" goals will always fuck non-competitive aspects of Blizzard games. Doesn't matter if those e-sports are real or just imagined, it's going to happen.

Ladder isn't an esport and it never was.  But it was an enormously popular mode in Diablo 2.  I'm actually happy they added it.  I just don't understand why Greater Rift rankings are a thing.  That's really the issue here, not the ladder.

So after hundreds of hours of playing and never seeing a furnace in the game im starting to think that all screen shots of this mace are bogus.

2.1.2 rolls around and bam, ancient mother fucken Furnace! http://imgur.com/ak8Q4kn

As for the conduit, sure it was fun, but I dont feel that the changes really matter too much. Just speeds up the inevitable.

He can. Would be better to add a socket using the legendary gem and reroll it into Crit Chance/Crit Damage/+% damage (I don't know the options on a Furnace).

The level reduction did not give crit or socket, so i rolled out the the area damage for a socket for now, until i get a gift to add a socket, then i will roll a crit.

Only primary attributes can be rerolled into a socket (or crit, IAS or any other useful attribute).

First impression playing a M6 DH after the patch - the class is broken.
Second impression playing a M6 DH after the patch and getting used to actually playing - the class is insanely broken.

No more spectator mode. DH is fun, all of a sudden.

Yeah, as far as I can remember, secondary stats don't really reroll into very useful things.  He had to do one of the primes.  Though I might have done the vitality instead, but I'm unrepentant glass canon.

Previously, sentries would continously rotate through your hatred spenders (typically multishot/cluster arrow/elemental arrow, assuming a cookie cutter M6 setup).
You would place your 5 sentries and watch things die in the crossfire.

Now sentries only fire a spender if the DH fires a spender, otherwise they auto attack.
Place your 5 sentries (with the right passive you can drop 3 sentries at once), fire, watch your screen basically explode, as the damage stacks with every dropped sentry and - before repeating the procedure - use one of the long forgotten hatred generating attacks, since you're now out of your main ressource.

Snagged a Carnevil last night, really nice to try a new build.  Not sure I like it in contrast to a full pet build, but it's a nice diversion.

How are you getting all the way to 5?  I am assuming there are items that allow you more extra sentries?  I've been running a variation on this build that uses Chakram (Serpentine), Polar Station on my sentries, and then Bane of the Trapped gem + Cull the Weak.  It's already T6 capable and I'm still one piece short of full marauders, so I'm looking forward to seeing how far I can push greater rifts when I get the build finished. I think I am also going to try and get that quiver that makes Chakram generate hatred so I can literally never run out of hatred and open up a skill slot for something else.

There's a quiver (Bombadiers sack?) that allows you to play extra sentries.

That's what I've been looking for on my WD.  I recently found the unique knife that lets your (and your pets) poison darts pierce.

Seems that + Carnevil + Zuni's perma fetishes combined with some +poison stuff would be pretty awesome.

I've been specing my guys for group buffs (defensive/offensive) and just tailing around in T6 rifts with public groups.  Rolling in loots.

I'm probably playing a Witch Doctor for Season 2, just in hopes to end with a Carnevil build. That's my kinda ridiculous setup.

That's the trick; I'm missing the 1hd and the Zunis.  I might shift back to poison pet build until I fill out the other slots.  I see the potential though.  I hit ~10 fetishes all spitting darts and single mobs were melting one by one.

I've been neglecting my follower gear.  How am I supposed to get +str/+vit gear on my Templar as a WD?  I tried looking around for guides and didn't see much.

With a Barbarian or Crusader.  Either make your own or party with one that will give you their drops.  I don't know if there's an easier way.

You do occasionally get off-class items.  But it's pretty rare.  The strength classes are my (current) least favorite too, sadly.

I feel like the enchantress is a better fit for the WD anyway. You don't need another tank, that's what pets are for. I guess if you're a special snowflake petless WD then you might need the templar.
