Five years later I've been vindicated!
Seriously, this is probably the first game in ten years, since Blood Bowl, that f13 people are actually playing together because it is fast and fun, to play and discuss. Every game is different.

It doesn't hurt that the multiplayer games are real fast, especially if schild is doing a hostile takeover of my company.

Admittedly, we play on the "Fast" speed setting. Normal is a little slower and easier to learn the game, but it also means less games in a night. To me, the fast speed is a killer. I am not ashamed to say that I can't process this kind of information this quickly. Also part of why I gave up RTS about fifteen years ago. But I still love this one, it's so different. Plus auctions!

We had multiple 7-way f13-people matches last night, with everyone in voice chat in Discord. When's the last time something like this happened around here? Good times.

Well there is the whole quarantine thing going on right now so that might be a factor.

It was fun being everyone's first target for hostile takeover. Except that one time schild wasn't playing and we were on normal speed and I finished second.

That's kind of cold. The quarantine probably made it easier for everyone to be available at the same time, including me as it was 5am here when we played. Everything else, including the hilarious voice chatting, seemed to be the genuine result of fun being had. And maybe Schild hyping the game up just a bit.

It's cold to suggest that maybe a bunch of people working from home with zero options to go out and be social or do other activities might contribute to getting a bunch of people online together to play a game for the first time in years? Like it's just a total coincidence?

Eh, it was pretty much the same people that are always online at that time of night. Quarantine or not. But this is the new normal so.

As an aside, I want to start trying 1v1 skirmishes.

So I bought this and despite my socialist leaning, I must conclude that after 5 hours gameplay, this is really fun! I would definitely be up for playing this in multi.

Played some of the tutorials and I have to say that I'm completely lost. Maybe my old brain is just not able for this kind of stuff anymore.

Youtube up some games and you'll get the hang of it. The game is pretty easy once you re-wire your brain a bit. This game is not about base building. It's about making money, so ignore the resources you need and pay attention to those that other people need.

For example, if you start off robots, you don't need food and water, but everyone else does (robots need chips/power/aluminum). I always start off water/food unless for some reason it super cheap on the map. Then start building up power then see where the markets are and go from there.
One thing I haven't played with is the hacker array. I usually try for Patents and Optimization before anything else. Then Off World Trading. I typically haven't had time to do anything else. Money is tight.

Yeah, games are usually over too quckly for you to build a broad base. Once you have your basic stuff (water, food, power) organised, you need to pick a strategy and then try and win with it. There's no room to pivot, and the costs of retooling are too great.

Oh you can pivot, pretty quickly if you're playing well. All you're doing is demoing buildings.
