Haven't touched this since the first month of launch of the original box.  If I was to get him going, what should I buy for Xmas to get him going?

http://us.battle.net/shop/en/product/world-of-warcraft - $20.

That says it includes levels 1-90 so I assume that means it is all expansions up to Warlords, the current one, which is another $35.

Create a free trial first, if he makes it to level 20, then buy him the upgrade.

At least that's what I did with my kid.  She never made it to 20, so I saved $55.

I'm pretty sure Warlords is $50

Thanks for the info. I bought him the 20 dollar box as the 20 bucks is worth having something he can actually open on the day.

Probably a good idea, because otherwise it's "Merry Christmas, here's a...free trial."

Warlords is $50, and doesn't include the base game!?!?

Sorry I was looking at the price in £.

Can't you get him hooked on something that will do less damage to his life?  Like heroin?

Buy your kid a 6 month supply cocaine and a side of meth. After 6 months of that they should be able to handle the addiction to WoW nicely.

Actually, it's probably safer and more humane for them to stick with the drugs

Also, depending on your kid's age, make sure you comb through the parental controls for the account as well. Bliz actually gives you a LOT of control over stuff, such as chat ability, access times, and a bunch of other stuff that other MMOs just totally lack in.

I get a weekly report from my kid's account that shows playtime for all games on her Bnet account, including Hearthstone and WoW.  It's pretty handy and I need something like that for Minecraft.

Just remember to bookmark the parental account page link because it won't be able to access it any other way. (i.e. there's no, "Go to parental controls page" link on Battle.net) If you don't bookmark it you can have the e-mail resent.

And turn off general and trade channels. People are vile.

Public chat is so much worse than it used to be. What is wrong with people?

I keep chat on but I do report people. I don't know what Blizzard does to them, but as soon as I report them, they go on my ignore list without being counted on my ignore list.
