Cruiser subdues knife-wielding man

Canadian Press

Tuesday, March 08, 2005

TORONTO (CP) -- A knife-wielding man caught on camera taunting police was pinned by a police cruiser against a bike stand before being arrested Tuesday morning in downtown Toronto.

The man, who was armed with a knife in each hand, threw himself against a police cruiser before he was pinned, in a startling episode that took place during the morning rush hour.

He flipped onto the hood, but rolled off, got up and began walking away.

An officer then squeezed the man between his cruiser's fender and a bicycle stand.

Again, the man got up, but finally dropped his knife and fell to the sidewalk when pepper-sprayed by police.

The man was wheeled away on a stretcher and is being held for a mental health assessment.

This should win the award for "Most Unsurprising Mental Health Assessment EVAR!"

Why is it so hard for me to watch videos linked from or hosted by this site? Can't see this video, either.

I think that video shows the most ineffective cops in the world. If he doesn't drop the knife, you shoot the fucker. It's just that simple. You do _not_ destroy public property. You are not Chris Tucker. This is not Rush Hour.

Edit: That's not to say the video wasn't cool. I just have extreme distaste for ineffective authority.

They were Toronto cops. This was the most action they've seen in a long damn time given the hockey strike.

Yeah, I saw the cops backing up and was thinking... WHY DON'T YOU JUST SHOOT HIM? It's not like they could miss at that range, and a bullet in his fucking kneecap would sure as hell dissuade him from trying to go all medieval on someone's ass. If the first one didn't subdue him, the second one would.

After this incident.. Metro cops have been under serious pressure to not make a mess in public. Plus, we're not gun happy, kk?

A guy shoots at a chick, pistols whips here, takes her hostage, and then the police snipers take him down in one shot and save the hostage.

See, here in America, we call that good police work. Get with the fucking program Canada.

Not quite as good as the Japanese cops who ran from the guy with a bat imo. This is bat country, after all....

Amen and pass the ammunition. I read that story and fail to see the "mess." They did their job and saved potentially two lives, while ridding society of an obviously useless waste of flesh who abused his wife and kids and tried to kill them. Next?
