Also played Lothos, the head vampire in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the movie the TV series was based on. Every career has its lowlights to pay the mortage.

I love Ladyhawke.

Split Second was awesome. It's now on Amazon Prime, so I'll get to see it again, never found it on vhs or dvd.

I've gotta go rewatch Split Second too. I remember really liking it when I first saw it way back when, but to my despair I realize that I remember almost nothing about it now, except that it was a really fun movie with Rutger Hauer.

Same with Redline.

I have to admit that news of his passing made me seriously sad. I knew he was getting old, but he carried it so well, and it was always fun to see him show up in a new movie or show...

Split Second is awesome.  Saw it for the first time last year.  He worked right up until the end as well and was in some truly bizarre films.  I watched his movie Blind Fury last month, which is a riff on Zatoichi, but also a comedy intended for kids?  But somehow also rated R.  It's fuckin' weird.  Couldn't see myself watching it without him in it.  I could probably say that about a lot of his movies.  I'll miss him, but at least he left us with a huge catalog.

I know there are some NFL fans among you...

Don Banks passed away yesterday. I been reading his stuff since long before I can remember, him and King and Florio... Agree or think they were full of shit, you could always find some article to scratch the NFL itch.

Jessi Combs of Mythbusters died while attempting to break a land speed record. I imagine at the speed she was going it happened nearly instantly.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/28/us/jessi-combs-race-car-driver-death-trnd/index.html

Quote
Race car driver Jessi Combs, who earned the title of the "fastest woman on four wheels" after she set a record with a jet-powered car, died Tuesday while trying to beat a land speed record, officials said.

Combs died Tuesday in Alvord Desert in southeast Oregon, the Harney County Sheriff's Office said. She was 39.

Yeah, I had been seeing that all over the place on the internet and social media, and I was like “she looks familiar” but I couldn’t place her until there was a tribute from the MB guys.  I remember when she took over temporarily for Kari, and I was like NO FUCK THAT, but she grew on me and I thought she was pretty cool.  Had no idea she was a racer girl.

Good lord. He had a heart attack then drowned while swimming. It's almost like Death was like "I have to make damn sure with this one, otherwise he'll just break my arms."

For those of us old enough to remember the Mary Tyler Moore show, Valerie Harper has died at the age of 80.

My dad died last week. We are getting to that age, and it sucks.

That’s so odd. I’ve had All Mixed Up stuck in my head for the last three days. I haven’t heard the song in years, it just popped into my brain from out of nowhere.

Kinda like that, just last week I had a "where are they now" moment and looked him up.

Sid Haig died last night at 80; I knew him mostly as Captain Spaulding in House of 1000 Corpses/Devil's Rejects.

Also Carl "The Cuban" Ruiz died at 44 of a heart attack. Chef and friend of Guy Fieri, frequent guest on his shows.

Sid Haig was one of my favorites. I always wanted to be a D-list character actor, so guys like him are special to me. Epic IMDB page.

It amuses the fiancee when I recognize guys like Sid or Al Leong in movies.

Forgot to post this the other day. There was a local drummer who had a TON of stuff on VHS, it was always fun to hang out at his house and watch drum videos. This was my formal introduction to Ginger Baker, and the one I always remember:

Timi Hansen, founding bass player for Mercyful Fate. Most people never heard of the guy, but he was a fundamental influence on me and my band back in the day. Stuff like this blew our little 1983 minds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6KwGmwOCuo

Everyone always talks about it when celebrities die in seeming waves, but we never talk when it's quiet. Doesn't it seem like we're in a lull of no-celebrity-death?
