Fuck cancer indeed. I got to watch a lot of that show, my kid liked it a lot as she was growing up. The guy definitely seemed like a decent person. As always, way too soon.

Burt Reynolds died this morning at age 82 due to cardiac arrest.

Sad to see this in the "lesser celebrity" thread.  The guy was an icon in the 70's.   Heartbreak

I think people just end up putting things here because it is easier than creating a new thread.

This.  I thought about giving it it's own thread, but figured there wasn't any point creating more clutter.

Maybe we can just change the title to "The <insert celebrity here> Died Thread"?

Scott Wilson who played Hershel in The Walking Dead (among many other roles) just died of cancer. He was 76 but I was still a little surprised. I thought he looked pretty well for his age last role I saw him in (The OA).

Sad to see him go.  I just watched Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon last week and enjoyed him in that.

My dad thinks Paul Schaffer and Paul Allen are the same person and he led Jay Lenos showband. He think Paul A. made his money and just wanted to spend his life playing the late show. It's hilariously bad.

I can barely carry on a conversation with my folks anymore, the alternative facts that seem to spew forth from their mouths makes it feel like I am talking to someone from an alternate universe.  Then I think there but for the grace of god go I, it is my destiny to eventually travel the same senile road and this makes me very very depressed.

A conversation for another thread, but I'm in the same boat. My parents are not the same people I knew even five years ago. I can't determine if the changes are due to their post-retirement mental changes, my move from the Midwest to 'liberal-bubble' Seattle as they call it, or some mix of the two. Did their minds melt from Facebook? I have no idea and the fact they can vote should scare all of us.

I think I read somewhere that they have a batch of them filmed ahead. He really hasn't been in great health this last year, and his beloved wife of 50+ years died not long ago.

That said, he had a wonderful run, and got to shepherd comics from being actively repressed to mainstream success.

He will be missed, but he will also be remembered.

Yup, he had a great run.  I’m stunned that was able take Marvel from a little comic book company to an entertainment powerhouse.

Best suggestion I heard was having Deadpool take his place doing the cameos.  Dressed as Stan Lee.

Maybe they could have a sort of obviously Fake Stan Lee stand in do the cameos, and pass it off as a Prototype Life Model Decoy, just for some in-universe meta references  awesome, for real

From Adam Cadre:
Quote
I grew up in an exurb where it took nearly an hour to walk to the nearest shop, to the nearest place to eat, to the library.  And the steep hills made it an exhausting walk.  That meant that until I turned sixteen, when school was not in session I was stuck at home.  This was often not a good place to be stuck.

Stan Lee gave me a place to hang out.

His critics would say that for me to thank Stan Lee for creating the Marvel Universe shows that I’ve fallen for his self‐promotion—that it was Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko and his other collaborators who supplied the dynamic, expressive artwork and the epic storylines that made the Marvel Universe so compelling.  “All Stan did was fill in the speech bubbles!”  But I didn’t read superhero comics for the fights or the costumes or the trips to Asgard and Attilan.  I read them for fantasy that read like reality, for the interplay of wildly different personalities—and for the wisecracks.  Stan had long since moved from scripter to publisher by the time I started plucking issues of Iron Man and The Avengers off the spinner racks, but he had set the template for how a Marvel comic should read.  The Marvel Universe that served as my refuge wasn’t really the world depicted in all those colorful panels.  It was the world Stan Lee built out of those speech bubbles.

Ricky Jay died. If you've never seen his magic act, he's probably the "oh yeah that guy" character actor you remember seeing in a few films and TV shows (as a Bond villain's henchman, the casino guy in Deadwood, etc.) But really kind of an amazing jack-of-all-trades: he was a writer, a historian of magic, etc.
