Chris Cornell, 52.

What the fuck man. This one hurts. Beautiful voice and great music and way, way, way too soon. I have a bad feeling it's going to be heroin or a general overdose.

Never was a fan, but no denying he was a strong influence and a huge mark on the mid-to-late 1990s when I was in college. You are right, this one stings even if I didn't care for the guy.

Well shit.

This means that Eddie Vedder is the last of the 'grunge' singers left.

Well technically Courtney Love is still alive... and Billy Corgan though Pumpkins might be considered post grunge. And Mark Lanegan is still around.

Didn't like the Casino Royale theme? I loved his solo work far, far more than Audioslave or Soundgarden. Pillow of your Bones, & Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart are among my all-time favorites. His Billy Jean cover was haunting.

Well, shit. He was top tier on our list of live acts to see, at least his acoustic stuff. Amazingly powerful, with just his voice and a guitar.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3Qjk9LqDvw

So glad I got to see him live. Fiancee was skeptical because I bought tickets to his acoustic show on a night we already had tickets to see Warren Haynes, whom we love dearly. I was adamant to see Cornell and after the first song she gave me the thumbs up. Just as good as it gets.

What a waste. Don't do drugs, kids.

You talking he should have been doing constant drugs? Because that lich, Keith Richards, seems to have a handle on it.  why so serious?

Sports columnist and commentator Frank DeFord died Sunday.

John Noakes is dead.  If you're not Brritish and of a certain age that is deeply in the "who?" territory but many of us grew up watching him performing ridiculous feats or struggling to persuade Shep (or elephants) to behave.  I'd certainly say I am more emotionally touched by him dying than by Wilder, Moore, George Michael and David Bowie put together.

Oh man :(  I remember being gutted when Shep died and finding out years later how much it had affected Noakes too. I read an interview with him once where it came out that he was really angry about the whole Blue Peter time and how he felt he was treated then. Very sad.

If Bowie weren't on that list Id be inclined to look up this Noakes fellow. But since you included him Im writing the notion off as absurd.

I can see that you might confuse being touched by someone's effect on your childhood with whether someone is a good musician for a few years.

I remember when he made the announcement also and, frankly, it was clearly obvious how much it had affected him - Guy could barely get the words out.

Still, not a bad innings.

Especially when you think back over how easy it would have been for that innings to have ended early: it could have been a hundred and fifty-foot fall when dangling from Nelson's column at a forty degree overhang without a rope or harness; coming off on a different corner of the Cresta Run; his chute failing to open instead of him taking the record for civilian freefall parachuting from 25,000 feet; or, later, capsizing in the Atlantic when sailing to the Carribean with his wife.  Or, as someone on twitter suggested, being crushed to death by three rogue baby elephants...

His relationship with Shep made me want a dog, and when I finally got one, many years later, there were many reasons that I bought a collie, but that was surely one of them.

And a fairly interesting story, in the end--it's curious that it is so forgotten. I wonder sometimes if it wasn't what tempted Cheney and Rumsfeld to think they could punish Saddam Hussein for being a bad client dictator easily, since they realized we'd done it before so easily.

Oh my. Looking him up after reading this it is strange that the original Batman run for two years (1966 - 1968), it was such a staple of afternoon TV. Would have thought a decade as least.

Regarding the Batman cinema film...he was one for the last actors still alive.

Joker (Cesar Romero), Pinguin (Burgess Meredith), Riddler (Frank Gorshin) are gone.

That leaves Catwoman Lee Meriwether and Robin Burt Ward.

Interestingly, Lee Meriwether only played Catwoman in the Movie. Eartha Kitt and Julie Newman played her in the Series.

Heres a complete list of the cast and crew, for those curious.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059968/fullcredits/

As an aside. Romero's Joker was my all time favorite.

West actually was a pretty good actor. I saw him in a few other things as well, and did a good job. When he presented an MST3K special he realised that he was actually in one of their episodes, and he took great pleasure in telling the audience that the movie was utter trash, he hated being in it, and he looked forward to seeing the MST3K guys tear it apart. RIP

Newmar not Newman

Also, the show ran for 3 seasons not two.

Very little that wasn't Gunsmoke ran for more than 2-3 seasons in the 1960s though so that is not a terrible run.

And Adam West was great. RIP

I knew an actress in the 90's who said West was a pain to work with, but I understand that was before he finally embraced, "yeah, I'm Batman."

I can't fault the guy for being a little bitter, but I'm glad he turned it around and came to peace with it. It made him so much better in the end. He was part of so many little things over the years he's going to be missed. Now I feel a need to watch the Grey Ghost episode of BA:TS.

I got him at his very last US appearance. It was here in Cincinnati and it was very touch and go if he'd even show up. The week after he left they made the announcement he would no longer be doing international fan cons.

The guy's really sweet, even if he's on the outs with everyone. He was clearly not well, however. Peter Mayhew is another who's looking worse every time you see him. It's a shame he's banned from everything for being such a dick earlier in his career. Daniels is a dick now and people still tolerate him.  /digress.
