Preordering Nintendo games has never really been a necessity. I think this time it is. If you preorder the new Zelda April first or beyond at EB and Gamestop, you'll get a revamped version of Windwaker with 2 new dungeons and all the graphics completely redone for a grand total of $10. You'll go from this: to this: Edit: Got a picture from the ACTUAL port to the new engine. Gamespot be damned. Edit: The exact same thing as a newspost.

You do realise that's a practical joke right? I think in EGM.

Oh it's in EGM alright, but it very very didn't look like a practical joke.

They've gotten better at what they do if it is a practical joke. Also, Nintendo should sue them. Or commit seppuku due to this dishonor if they're in on it.
I just looked at the page, there is nothing on it that denotes it would be a joke. It's page 56 if anyone is wondering.
Edit: Also, it would fall in line with all the past Zelda giveaways - though those weren't really updated in any fashion.

From EGM: Preorder deals for videogames tend to fall into three categories: enticing (like the RE4 making-of DVD), typical (the Metroid Prime 2 tshirt), and incredibly lame (one extremely useless cheat code for NfSU2). But not Nintendo's upcoming giveaway - this one's easily in a class of it's own.
Beginning the first day of April, those who plop down at least $10 on this fall's highly anticipated and mature looking The Legend of Zelda for GC will receive a bonus disc that features a visually remade version of Link's 2003 adventure, The Wind Waker. So instead of a cartoony look, the ever-popular elf will be traveling the ocean blue in search of his little sis with the same super slick and grown-up graphics as the next console installment.
But that's not all: The game will also include two full-length dungeons that were cut from the original Wind Waker because series creator and legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto felt "it had gotten too big for all ages to play." Told you this oh-so-sweet deal deserves it's own category. Now that I've typed all that for you. Despite the words "popular" and "elf" being, quite possibly, a form of cruel and unusual punishment, there's nothing else there that says it's an April Fool's Joke. Magazines tend to avoid those things because people can buy the magazine for the full month. If they do contain a joke, it's a lot more obvious than something like this. For example, a Ninja Gaiden / Master Blaster crossover. That would never happen and it's obviously a joke. And not funny, because that kind of crossover would be totally radical. We'll find out on April 1st, but I'm pretty sure this is for real.

A chance to watch Shigeru Miyamoto sue 1up.com and EGM into oblivion. Seriously, they wouldn't have quoted that shit if it were a joke.

You can pretty safely judge if something is a gag from a corporate entity if it will piss off or be taken in good humor. If this is a gag, it will do NOTHING but piss people off. That's not a good way to make money.

It better be very funny. In fact, it better be a road show, where the editors of EGM let you throw darts at them, and maybe, for a finale, one lucky person gets to shoot them point blank with buckshot. Or I could be playing a redone Wind Waker in Zelda. I couldn't stand the original graphics, despite how fluid they were. Not only did I feel more like an elf than ever, but I was an elf CHILD. That's just wrong.

I hated the sailing myself. All the dungeons were pure Zelda, and there weren't any suck-ass dungeons like the accursed water temple from the N64 one. The sailing however, god, it fucking sucked. Miyamoto is half senile at this point, but Nintendo gives him money to make anything.
Miyamoto: SO, LIKE I HAVE THIS IDEA. ZELDA, WITH BOATS. Nintendo Execs: THAT IS AWESOME, HERE IS ALL OUR MONEY AND BEST PROGRAMMING TEAMS.

I really liked the sailing actually. So relaxing. I thought it was a lot of fun to just sail around, spot random things, etc.
Anyway, yeah, it's probably a joke. Oh well.

Isn't this the same EGM that made up a "secret" Street Fighter II character and had screenshots of him and everything? People went nuts trying to unlock him, but he didn't exist. Edit: quote from mobygames: Remember the Sheng Long controversy? Whenever Ryu won a match he would say his trademark phrase just as anyone else, but his was a little more cryptic than the others: "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance" ( ) Who the hell is Sheng Long?? That was what most western SF2 players though. The answer as usual was in a botched translation effort: Sheng Long is the chinese pronunciation of Sho-Ryu, as in Sho-Ryu-Ken, aka the Dragon Punch. Ryu was saying that you had to master his technique in order to beat him, but for some odd reason that we'll never know English, Chinese and Japanese got all mixed up in some poor translator's head and the "Sheng Long" was phonetically transcribed as it was, and coupled with Ryu's cryptic message gave the impression that he was talking about some hidden character. The rumor flew around from day one (among other famous SF2 hoaxes like the one about you being able to ride Guile's Jet or beating up the bystanders in some stages), but it really spread like wildfire when as an april fool's joke EGM published an article about how there really was a secret character named Sheng Long unlockable via ungodly gaming prowess (beating all characters in "perfect" matches). Regardless of how ridiculous the rumor was, every kid out there (myself included) poured coins after coins in the SF2 machines and spent hours in front of the home versions in an effort to unlock said character. What did Capcom do? They watched as the money poured in by the shitloads! Ah.... Don't you miss when those things could happen in the fantastic world of videogames?? Schild, you are a sucker.

When Miyamoto says something - which he no doubt will (or this will turn up on Gamespot in the Rumor Control section by midweek), I'm going to assume this is true. Also, as you'll note, it's MARCH 7TH, it it was simply an April Fool's Joke, it would have been in the May issue of EGM.

Wasn't EGM also the magazine to photoshop up a Sonic in Super Smash Bros. Melee?
Is it the May issue or the April issue? Bloody magazines run so far ahead that I never remember what month they're covering.

EGM does some sort of april fools joke every year in their April Issue, which means you will see the joke in March. They've done everything from the all-bonds code for Goldeneye007 to actually making fun of a reader's misspelled letter by creating a preview of a fake game called "astrod 3000" or whatever. The most recent one was a Lord of the Rings cart-racing game, complete with a screenshot of Gandalf in a cart packed with fireworks.
A lot of people still haven't forgiven them for the all-bonds code...

EGM has placed an April Fool's gag article in every April issue for the past ten years. The mention of April 1st pretty much guarantees this one is the gag for the year.
