Horray: http://borderlandsthegame.com/index.php/news/us-announcing-borderlands-the-pre-sequel

PC Gamer article on it: http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/04/09/borderlands-the-pre-sequel-takes-the-loot-n-shoot-series-into-space/?utm_source=tw&utm_medium=emp&utm_campaign=uk

The lack of atmosphere has a couple of gameplay implications: Firstly you need to keep your oxygen meter topped up by collecting O2 canisters, which drop in the same way as other loot. Not fun in itself, but you can also vent these to enable double jumps and to power jetpacks. This creates cool platforming opportunities—one massive jump sees the characters land on a pillar of moon rock, below which lava from a laser strike flows—and adds a pleasing verticality to the shootouts as enemies whizz around. You can also shoot out their helmets to rob them of air. As if being shot in the face wasn't already inconvenience enough.

Also claptrap as a class  awesome, for real

*edit*
Also interestingly enough it won't be released on PS4 and XB1 but will be on PS3 and 360 (and PC)

Keeping oxygen topped off in a game about shiny guns doesn't seem fun regardless of what you can do with it.

I just watched the video on the main site.  Unfortunately, it looks like the low gravity feature is going to slow the gameplay down a lot...

So the game is about the mass slaughter of baddies using a cool array of guns and abilities.

And they decide the next setting will be low oxygen and low gravity?

What?

Interesting choices on using existing characters. That its only coming out on 360/PS3 rather than new gen suggests its probably just the same engine again. I wonder if the Burch's will be involved? - I credit a great deal of what I loved about BL2 directly to them.

Coming out on PS3/360 suggests 2K Australia is a bunch'a wankas that don't get the good jobs/toys.  I can only assume the Burches are not working with them.

Unless they plan to do fun things with bullets that'll travel forever or guns with the mother of all kickbacks, I don't know why this needs to be moon-based. Looks ok, fun with Titanfall-like jump packs and that ground-pounding effect which kinda reminds me of one of my favorite Saints Row IV abilities (the one that you could amp up to cause the nuclear blast). But it does seem like playing a bit underwater.

Also, they talk about how well integrated the teams are. Between the U.S. and Australia? Sure, if one of them is working the graveyard shifting exclusively. Otherwise, yea, not so much.

I'd go with Gearbox wanting to wring as much money as possible out of the existing consumer base for as little money as possible. Their BL and especially BL2 DLC strategy (post-GoTY DLC? Sure! How about 5 or 6 of them?) suggests this strongly (which is aside from all of the dodgy stuff rumoured around A:CM and its funding)

Also, Wankers.

What's the word on this? Is the floaty low gravity moon shit fun or tiresome?

I always thought the jumps in BL1 & 2 felt kind of bad and it looked in some early videos like they had turned that up to 15 because its on the moon or whatever. Seemed like that might be a pretty bad move.

I'm buying it Day 1 because BL2 was one of my favorite games of all time. PC master race, of course; will report in on the fun factor.

It's not the same team, I'm waiting for the inevitable $20 version if I buy it at all.

Give it a year and get most of the DLC in the same pack. Then they'll add more.

Yea, got my pre-load going this morning. I'm fully expecting it to just be the same game with new missions and characters, but I'm quite ok with that.

Doesn't go live here for a day yet, but I weakened and pre-ordered it. Intending mostly co-op play with a couple of friends, expecting nothing more than more of the same :)

A lot of DLC for BL2 is on sale 75% off on Amazon.

To be honest there's stuff I'd buy but somehow Amazon is making buying things feel dangerous and confusing so I guess I'll wait for the inevitable steam version of the same sale.

Seriously 2014 and I can't figure out what arcane trick I need to use to let me go back to shopping after adding one dlc code to the cart. The fuck.

After joy-puking my face off as per the marketing material for BL2, I'm just not excited about this.  Is it more than a low-gravity arena shooter?

I'm not sure yet. The Moon setting is weird, and I kind of suck at bouncy shooting it seems, but the O2 thing is not really a big deal. Still need to try Claptrap in a multiplayer game and see if his "Everybody's Best Friend" skill tree is going to be as ridiculous as it looks.

I'm enjoying lots of tie ins to the past games - the BL1 hunters periodically chime in with comments during the game much like they did in Dragon Keep. Also, they added dialog to to the character you are playing, which seems to fill in that character's story much better than how they did it in previous ones.

I'm ashamed to admit though, despite having played BL/2 for hundreds of hours, playing this now makes me kind of go "I wish the shooting part was as good as it is in Destiny".

I'm way better at this than Destiny. Not sure if it's a real kb+m (vs adapter) or what, but I can actually get headshots here.

I get tons of controller headshots in Destiny so I'm probably going to ignore that entirely. why so serious?

Spent a couple of hours playing this at the weekend and got buyers remorse. There's nothing particularly wrong with it, I'm just not in the mood for this kind of grindy XP loot game.

I like it, but not as much as BL2. The low gravity stuff makes the game feel floaty, and doesn't add anything positive for me; the slam attack is mostly useless and I hate all the stupid platforming they've added. There's also a really jarring disconnect between the new characters who are all Australian and the previous characters (Jack, Lilith, Moxxi, etc.) who are not.

That said, it's otherwise the same game as BL2 with new characters/story. If you liked 2 you'll enjoy this; if you didn't, avoid.

They're not even Claire-from-Lost Australian, they're Borderlands characters with the crazy dialed up to Australian. There was one quest where I didn't even understand the words the NPC was using because they're Aussie slang or something.
