Found this game on Steam recently, a search here showed no mentions of it. Bills itself as a Sandbox Strategy RPG.

Does anyone have experience with it? It's currently available to play, but still in Alpha.

From the website, it looks interesting.

From the FAQ's:

Great, so I'm gonna spend hours grinding and slaughering rats before I can do anything good?

No, but you can't charge around like an idiot either, the game will require you to think a little more realistically. If you encounter bandits, give them the money! Don't enter combat tournaments! There are places you can go if you want a quick initial level-boost. Join the army or a sword school to get some training. Make some friends to back you up. Join a faction, they'll accept newbies. Have some friendly duels for practice. There are plenty of peaceful professions you can take up to make money and increase certain stats. Plus, there are some interesting points:
-Depending on the situation, you don't normally die from losing a fight.
-You gain more experience for losing a fight than from winning.

So whats the game about, what do you do?

Most RPGs require that you hunt for trouble. If you want a good fight, you have to specifically find a quest and go to another *yawn* dungeon. If you don't, nothing happens, the game stands still. In Kenshi, trouble comes to you. A lot. Don't think you are safe because you are in a town now. There are still muggers, theives, police, corrupt officials, and thats just internal, what if the town comes under siege? Now you're trapped. Do you aid the defence? If the defence falls then you will find yourself in the middle of a slaughter. This is a world where survival is a constant goal.
You do whatever you want. The prime objective is to survive, you can raise your characters, make money, fight for justice, rob people, avenge one of your character's deaths, hunt legendary monsters, choose a profession, save up for really cool stuff, or just survive, you make your own story. I know this may seems alien to a lot of people, but you have to choose yourself!

It sounds interesting but this has been in alpha/early access for quite awhile now and I don't think there's any timeline on when it will be "released".

I have had Kenshi for quite a long time.  I have been buying a lot of Indie games, and this is the single one I most regret.  A lot of people like this game, I am not one of those people.  I find it frustrating, obtuse, and generally hideously incomplete.  My first few hours of gameplay was drawing enemies into the cities, watching the guards destroy them, looting the corpses, and selling what I found.  After hours of repetition I was able to afford about 7 hirelings.  My first encounter with my band, wiped the floor with me.  Why I have no idea.  What I was supposed to do differently... no clue.  Train... how?  Use skills... what skills?

The game play was simply boring , terrible, and honestly I was more entertained by the mechanics of Pools of Radiance: Return to the Ruins of Myth Drannor ( and by that I mean I was more entertained by watching the uninstaller uninstall peoples operating systems).  I would not recommend this game at all.  The premise does sound awesome.  That is why I purchased it.  The mechanics suck, the interface is terrible, the gameplay is boring as hell and honestly when I played it, it didn't qualify as a game in my opinion.  Oh and I was never able to test this premise either so I have seen no evidence of this crafting system.

Buyer beware on Kenshi.

Born too late to explore the new world.
Born too early to explore the universe.
Born just in time to see liberty die.

Thanks for the update.

Reading through the FAQ got me interested. But watching videos and reading your review was caution enough.

Saw it on steam greenlight a while ago, looked very very crude still.
