Saw this last night and it was great.

Made me feel physically sea sick, and was the only watchable Tom Hanks film since Big. Definitely a film to see in cinema - not sure how the long period spent in a small space would translate on a TV screen.

The Greengrass shaky cam thing was so much better than in the Bourne nonsense.

I don't know - he or his films have always annoyed me. This was good enough to get past my damage.

Saving Private Ryan?

Joe Versus the Volcano?

Yes, I want to see exactly how long I can get the thread with not a single post discussing the original topic.

Ryan: Tired, predictable, hackneyed.

Joe: Haven't seen it.

I'm entirely happy to accept that my opinion of Tom Hanks is not normal. But this film is good enough that it even I thought it was great.

Forrest Gump was an awful, maudlin, overlong piece of trash.

And yet iconic.

And no mention of Philadelphia? And come on... Splash was good!

Splash was before Big, but Philadelphia was good.

Does Toy Story 1, 2 and 3 count?  Those are great flicks.

Toy Story I had overlooked, they are good.

Maybe it's just his face that breaks my ability to enjoy a film. But seriously, there is an awful lot of hokey trash he is in. I think fucking Gump is what trapped him in a life of extreme wealth based on lazy film making. I'm sure he cries himself to sleep over this every night...

When it comes to Hanks, there is just one movie that ever needs mentioning: Road to Perdition.  Awesome, awesome movie.

The Polar Express.

The Lady Killers?

The Terminal?

Last week some coworkers and I had a bet to see who could name the most Tom Hanks movies, this is still fresh for me...

I didn't see polar express. But the Terminal is worse than Gump, and Lady Killers... I don't know what to say.

Obligatory Mazes and Monsters reference.

As Tom was born in my home city (and immediately moved away), I hate to say that I've never understood his appeal.  I always thought he was best cast in the wacky sitcom roll and everything he has done since then has been awkward (except Toy Story stuff).

2020 will be the year I gave up all hope.
