When you look at the plot it should collapse into a schmaltzy mess of melodrama and girl power, but the strength (and speed) of the script keeps it funny, and somehow not purely about how hard it is to be woman.
In particular Lake Bell is great.
It did get really wobbly in the big climax, the film had avoided labouring its message and kept the pace up till that point, but suddenly it feels it needs to slow down, resolve and explain everything. I left the cinema choosing to believe that one scene never happened. It didn't matter because the film had earned the dodgy ending by being great for 80 minutes before that.
