Ok, so I'm at the store looking at both of these games for the Xbox. I come home and read all the reviews I can find. Basically it seems to boil down to MVP being a better baseball game and MLB being a better online experience.

If we're going to do an online league, should I be looking at MLB or if there's no interest should I look at MVP instead?

I'll probably be getting MLB as soon as I can. Why? Because EA is the fucking devil, can suck my left nut, and because while MVP usually looks better on the field, ESPN has a better statistical base. Oh yes, and EA is the fucking devil.

I'd be interested in an online league for MLB.

I will purchase one or both for the express purpose of getting my ass handed to me in an online league with you catasses. Dibs on the not-quite-as-shitty-as-last-year M's.

I found MVP 2005 to be a snoozefest of epic proportions. I may not have tried a baseball game since the days of the genesis, but god damnit what has happened in the world of baseball? The game was less interesting then watching curling.

I'll pick up MLB if this comes to fruition. I'll also keep my ass out of the fantasy baseball thread.

I bought this last night. It's only $20. I will most likely be running a league, because I can never get enough abuse online.

Do you guys want a full front page review, or just some comments in this thread?

I want a full front page review with plenty of cheap shots at EA for being the devil.

Immediate comment. Fuck MVP and EA in all orifices.

MLB is quite obviously not just a retread of last year's graphic engine with some new animations. It's better looking from the ground up. Presentation is a big upgrade, including the sound presentation. I only played one game, but a few times I had to look behind me because I thought my wife was talking to me, when it was actually just crowd noise.

It plays better too. The pitching is redone, and works well once you get the hang of it. Batting is pretty similar to last year's but there wasn't anything wrong with last year's. The baserunning is a bit better, but I still have to get used to it. Stealing works a bit better.

The only negatives? There is some slowdown in animation transitions (some of which are like mini-freezes) and the rosters are WAY out of date. For fuck's sake, Sammy Sosa is still a Cub. Roster updates are supposed to be coming at the first of each month, so I'm hoping they'll update these soon.

It's $20. If you like baseball, you should get it. If you hate America, you should buy MVP.

You have been writing GOP talking points again, haven't you?

Goddamn it. I just got into NBA 2k5. Now I have to buy this. I need to win the lottery so I have time to devote to all my video game addictions. Not to mention my  other hobbies. Should probably talk to my wife every now and then as well...

Apparently, they DO have updated rosters on X-Box Live. I swear they weren't there the night I bought the game, but I got them last night. They are updated as of Feb. 14th, so Sammy is an Oriole and Jeromy "I strike out for justice" Burnitz is a Cub. However, they still have Farnsworth as a Cub, and he was traded to Detroit recently. I imagine that the online league won't need to be started until late in March, early April.

Best to wait for the season to start and go with the Opening Day rosters- if they Mariners are any indication, rosters are anything but set for most teams as of now.

I may swing by to visit the pimples on my lunch hour and pick this up. Gotta get some practice in so I am not the league doormat again.

Though it will cost me $100 (fuck you Xbox live and wireless adaptor), I'd be down for some online play. If we can do an online draft, that'd own.

I call Yankees, either way.

Picked it up this weekend. So far, I dig it, but I am having trouble getting the timing down on batting. Why is there no cursor in the batter's box so I can see where the hell I am swinging? I don't want to have to RTFM...

Latest roster updates were for Valentine's Day. Hopefully they will get us a set of Opening Day rosters the first week of April.

$20 you say? Hmm...

I haven't really enjoyed baseball games much as of late....but if there's some kinda league, I'd be down with that...it'll make me feel like I'm actually using my Live account.

I might call dibs on the A's, I dunno....are they still any good? I don't get to watch SportsCenter much anymore.

I'd either take the Diamondbacks or the Twins.

Both will be equally bad this year so I'm not sure which way to go.

You are on "True Aim" setting. See if you can change the batting setting to "Cursor" or "Classic." In the setup for the "Play Game Mode" use your right stick to change the manner of pitching or batting. I personally dig True Aim better than cursor, because the sticks are so imprecise. I also dig the K-zone style of pitching, as opposed to the meters and effort bar of last year's title.

The Twins will be decent this year, though it won't be through longball, but pitching, defense and "small ball." The Diamondbacks are almost assured of being completely inconsistent and not challenging for anything but spending too much on broke-down-ass players.

Ahh ok. I guess a quick RTFM session would have helped! I just want some sort of feedback so I know approximately how far off I am when I swing.

I haven't monkeyed with the online league settings yet. Is it possible to have both CPU and human owners in a league? A full schedule of games to play against both PC and human opponents would be fun as hell.
