And just when I thought SyFy was running bout of original ideas...

SyFy often has little to nothing to do with these.  The Asylum and other production houses make them and Syfy just pays them to broadcast it/slap a SyFy Originals label on them.

If you like movies like these you should also see Mega Piranha, Sharktopus and the legendary Birdemic: Shock and Terror, among others.  Rifftrax recorded a hillarious riff track for Birdemic, and also performed it live.  I think you can pick up copies of that live performance as well.  I saw it when it was broadcast to a local cinema and I laughed so hard I was sore the next day.

I like how it's suddenly cool to like awful SyFy movies. I've been watching awful SyFy movies for years!

The Asylum did a "Sherlock Homes" movie that actually fairly watchable, and every bit as daft as the big budget one.

As a gourmand of shit movies, I had to watch this. It did not disappoint.

This was the single most awful movie ever put to film. It was an insult not just to the collective intelligence of the entire human race throughout time, it was an insult to anyone that has ever put together a film, play or television show. There was not even the pretense of an attempt at craft. The simplest task such as matching the light in shots from the same scene was apparently beyond this team. The story was even worse than one might think from a title that is this insanely idiotic. It doesn't even work on the level of camp because they couldn't even get camp right.

It is so horrifically awful and yet I could not look away.

After watching some Birdemic clips on youtube, all I can say is DRILLING AND MANLINESS. Thanks for the tip.

This thread is definitely giving me some good ideas about what to watch during our next bad-movie-a-thon  Heart

Another must see movie for connoisseurs of Bad is Komodo Vs Cobra, which is actually fairly watchable for a totally shit movie. The girls certainly don't hurt.

Anything by the Asylum is generally utter shit (with a few exceptions like the Sherlock Holmes movie above) But if you want scrape the bottom of the barrel shit curdling awful then there is only one movie that can be mentioned. A movie so awful that the mere mention of the Title will invoke images of the true avalanche of  crap that awaits you. Yes, your next stop at the video store is Titanic 2

Can I mention Troma movies here, or does that count as cheating? If not, then Surf Nazis Must Die. You know you want to watch it.

Is it sad that I knew the director and two of the actresses in Komodo vs Cobra without looking it up?

Unfortunately over the past couple years SyFy has gone more towards boring-as-shit natural disaster movies and away from awesome stuff like Frankenfish and Mansquito. (Also they run fewer "original" movies in general)

You need to see Birdemic before committing fully to that.

Yeah, Birdemic is easily the most shoddily made movie I've ever seen.  Also, it has the benefit of being made by someone who was serious about the movie.  It isn't bad on purpose like a lot of the SyFy/Asylum movies.  James Nguyen is just sublimely disconnected from reality.

The Room is another terrible mess of a movie.

It's on Netflix so it's easily accessible.

Also, I can't recommend the Rifftrax highly enough.

How about the 2013 sequel Birdemic 2: The Resurrection? It's rated 0.2 higher on IMDB!  why so serious?

I like that they made the birds look especially crap so that the main dude's acting wouldn't be the worst thing in the movie.

Birdemic is basically the modern Manos: Hands of Fate, it's kind of what I would expect would have happened with that film if the guy making it had access to the Internet, technology, etc.

Also they totally shot a bunch of the business scenes in a building where I've taken IT training classes, which was kind of weird.
