I'll be honest, I didn't realize he was still alive, but a real end of an era. One of the first fantasy films I ever saw was a double feature of Golden Voyage of Sinbad and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger at the Quaker Drive-In.

WOW! I had no idea he was still alive either, and I just finished a giant report on special effects a couple months ago. I figured dude was long dead from some of the pictures I'd seen.

Took the kids to see an exhibition of his models at a film museum in London last year. They couldn't care less (being 6 and 3 at the time) but I was in heaven. A great man.

Clash of the titans was the movie that begun my love for all things fantasy and science fiction. He was a pioneer.

You call it an accident. I call it justice.

Man, the Sinbad movies were really my first taste of movie monsters... the Cyclops being about the coolest thing ever to my childhood self. Then Clash of the Titans... yeah. Great man.

This. I had gotten into D&D a year or two before, but when I saw COTT for the first time (at a friend's birthday party, if memory serves) I was completely hooked. The stop-motion stuff gave the fantasy creatures a more otherworldly feel than smooth CGI does.

The original Clash of the Titans, with all its herky-jerky stop motion and bad matte paintings was still loads better than the overloaded CGI-infested shitbox that was the new Clash of the Titans movie. Harryhausen was a fucking genius and he will be sorely missed.

I can tell by your avatard that the two of you are related. I love Jason and the Argonauts. It's so old and yet I love it so much. ESPECIALLY the skeletons!

A part of me wishes they'd take Harryhausen's skeleton from his corpse and animate it.

A lot of people didnt like stop motion (me included) but it was a lot more realistic than the CGI they are using today.
Regardless, the man was a genius. He actually worked on the effects on Jurassic park as a consultant on the special effects, which is probably why those stand out as being so damn good compared with today. He did say though, when seeing a mockup of a bunch of dinosaur skeletons running on the computer, that he was out of a job, :(
