Just cought this on the trailers with Oblivion on the sneak peak early show at my theatre.   Totally pulling a MiB vibe from this in a big way.  Looks fun as hell too, which is a big plus.

Jeff Bridges + Ryan Reynolds = win.  Looks great, kind of like Hellboy and MiB smashed together.

I managed to catch abot 60% of it in small chunks while checking theatres at work over the weekend.  It is OK.  Not great, but probably worth a rental / discount matinee day viewing.  Definately leaning more towards Wild Wild West instead of MIB 1.   Just seemed like it was trying too hard.   Honestly, I dont think any movie of the same formula is going to match up with MiB, which pretty much had perfect chemistry between Tommy and Will as the leading actors.

And from what I saw, they never did explain how they cover up an exposure (which is kind of a major event in the movie, considering they have scores of deados roaming the streets and wreck half a city by the end of the movie.)

Yeah came out this weekend in the US.  Was hyped to hell-and-back, with ads on every channel and they got Adult Swim to do some tags between shows. 

Didn't help it.  Opened 3.2 million below Pacific Rim's 2nd week, with a dismal 12.7mil, 7th for the week.  (Though, opening the same week as RED2 has to have hurt them both. RED opened in 5th place with only 18.5 mil)

I'm amazed the Conjuring did as well as it did.  But then I'm not a fan of Horror so that's personal bias.

Conjuring has a shit ton of good press. There's been quite some good horror coming out the last few years.

The only reason RED2 hurt RIPD is because RIPD is apparently terrible. And I don't know if I would say RIPD was "hyped to hell and back". Ads are common place for any movie, especially at that budget. Beyond that, there was no tie ins with any products that I saw.

Granted, Bridges could get more work if he wanted.  Who knows, maybe something about the project intrigued him, or he did it as a favor to somebody.  Cage will make any movie that will pay his quote, which is low compared to how much his name alone means to box office receipts.  He's made some stinkers, chewed a lot of scenery in some roles that he was grossly miscast, but I don't think many of his movies have actually lost money.

Actors generally try to keep acting. If you read interviews even with big-name actors there is a sense of near desperation that comes from knowing that at any time your phone could just stop ringing and you're done.

If you look at the IMDB page of most well-known actors you'll see recent movies you've never heard of. Work is work. Most actors are not choosy.

Jeff Bridges was on Colbert last week, ostensibly to promote this movie. But he didn't seem too enthusiastic, even as they played a clip. Then again, every time I see him on TDS or Colbert it seems like he's stoned or amped up something.

Clip was same short scene from the trailer and it didn't excite me much, and it looked like Bridges was still in True Grit character for this movie.

Michael Caine is the first guy I always think of for this approach. Anthony Hopkins does the same thing too.
