A suspicious package that led police to close streets around the federal building and call in a bomb squad Wednesday was filled with decapitated chickens, police said.
The package was discovered in the bushes in front of the Abraham Ribicoff Federal Building at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Investigators opened the package and found three headless chickens, said Hartford Police spokeswoman Nancy Mulroy. They later found another bag containing three more dead chickens.
There were no letters accompanying the bags, Mulroy said.
The FBI and city police were both investigating Thursday.
