Possibly associated with the asteroid currently passing close to Earth? Will there be more?

Meteorite's fiery flash through the atmosphere

The explosion when it hits

Lots more videos here.

News report at The Guardian.

Edits: Astronomy blogger says it's the wrong direction and too early to be associated with the asteroid. He thinks coincidence.

This compilation video of the atmospheric entry is good - ignore the UFO conspiracy title smiley

Editing again: Interfax reports 150 injured

Edit 3: Best collection of videos and pics I've seen, including stuff on the ground.

Holy crap. So who else is expecting to see aliens climbing out of that building that got hit?

Also, how come people are videoing while they drive along? Just on the offchance that an alien spacecraft asteroid flies through the sky?

Apparently dashboard cameras have become massively popular in Russia due to police corruption and insurance fraud. People want to be able to prove what happened.

The crater video is pretty astonishing. I don't see how that guy could have gotten as close as he did.

Note: the crater video is UNRELATED. It's given with a link to the Russian Wikipedia, warning that it's being spread as a fake meteorite crater, but is actually Derweze in Turkmenistan, a natural gas crater that has been burning for decades.

Heh, one in a billion shot.  Modern tech, amazing.

I'm really more concerned about the upcoming near miss.  It's passing below the orbit of satellites as it is.  I ponder what will happen if we have another one of those mega-quakes that rocks the Earth in its orbit *just enough*

Can't tell if the pictures of buildings are from before the impact or afterwards. Because, you know, Russia is a wasteland.

I do enjoy how extremist across the globe have more faith in our government than most of us do.  Crazy leaders in Iran, Russia, and random other places (including the US) are convinced we have a weather machine we are using to throw horrible storms at them.  Or that we have an earthquake machine.  Or that we caused the Tsunami in southeast Asia to take out growing economic rivals.  Or now apparently a space based weapon we decided to use by attacking a remote area of Russia.

I think the best WTF reporting this morning was the various sites repeating a rumor that the Russians had fragmented the meteor on entry by shooting a missile at it.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

All things considered, I'm actually more amazed that Americans don't have dash cams.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

It's considered a HUGE FUCKING DEAL to mandate police record interrogations. Only a handful of states require it.

Also here anything is fungible anyway. You can have dashcam of like 10 officers beating an unconscious perp who was ejected from his car nearly to death and not a fucking thing will happen.
