Mark Emmert is such a weasel.  It will be nice to see him memorialized as the guy that killed the NCAA.

The first weekend has some damned good games.  I can't wait.

1.  UNC/USC
2.  USC/Hawaii
3.  Alabama/VaTech
4.  Georgia/Clemson
5.  LSU/TCU
6.  Washington/Boise

Probably nothing will go like we don't expect, but still should be some decent football to watch instead of the Oregon/Nicholls State matchups.   swamp poop

Yeah it's certainly an upgrade over the usual crap we see Week 1. With the new system that's also bound to get better after this year.

The committee system isn't going to reward shit scheduling. The whole purpose of the move away from the BCS is that conferences are tired of dealing with the formula nonsense, and they want to make more money. The way they get attendance up and make more money is by not scheduling crap games that nobody cares about.

Make no mistake, the schools have problems selling those games, and they fudge numbers to get attendance records up. Not only that, despite news that college football attendance is setting records in conferences, they are doing it by adding schools and looking at totals, not averages. The SEC attendance per game average has actually been dropping since 2008.

Student attendance is also down in places, because they could care less about watching crap games. Georgia recently went from 18,000 to 16,000 in allotment, and they still have to work to sell those crap games in single tickets well after the season packages are handed out.

I hope you're right.  I think they should just ban playing FCS schools.

I think that should be a given. I'd like to go further redo what qualifies as division I football. In my mind it should just be the 5 conferences and you play each other.

Seriously, if you can't schedule (and beat) Kentucky, Kansas, Washington State and Wake Forest, you don't deserve a bowl.

All of those teams would have mopped the floor with Illinois last year  awesome, for real

But that would rob us of awesome stuff like San Jose State beating John Elway twice!

I wonder if Urban Meyer could end up getting in some significant trouble over this Aaron Hernandez deal.  It's already well known that he is very light handed with his star players.

Manziel suspended for half a game.   awesome, for real

Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel of No. 7 Texas A&M has been suspended for the first half of Saturday's season opener against the Rice Owls, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy on Wednesday afternoon.

Heh. Our kicker played his very first game of football EVER tonight.  He was on the U.S. National ski team and tried out for football on a bet.  Hit from 19, 38 and 45 and executed a flawless surprise onside kick.

I heard Utah was down big so turned it on and watched the comeback during commercials for the Seahawks game. Utah State's QB was a slippery little bastard. I am glad the Utes pulled it out...I was too tired to go down to my office to log in to WoT and troll you about losing the first game  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

I am not sure I care for my first exposure to Sonny Dykes brand football.

On the other hand, freshman QB went for 445 yards...

Manziel, like Tebow, is way overrated.  The Heisman is selection committee is a joke.

Well it is really a popularity contest at this point... who can sell the most gear?

And LSU looks like it actually has an offense this year... sad about losing all those defenders to the paying league.

We're not great on the line and that cost us yet again. I can't believe that for the umpteenth year in a row, we bought in as a fanbase that our offensive line wouldn't be completely ass. They're older now! They have game experience! They won't be stopped!

Yeah right. If not for the fact we have one of the most awesome runningbacks in all the SEC, that line would look like a unit on Arkansas Directional School. Plus our QB is a fool who doesn't know that the playclock is important or not to throw it to the other team, and our defense is as we expected, shitty.

The game was also rife with penalties, and most of the damage was on our center. That's inexcusable. He's supposed to be the one guy on the line who isn't getting caught holding!

It didn't matter. We had another 2 possessions after that and did jack shit before getting the garbage TD they gave us with their prevent Defense.

Well, this is still a BCS year. Key is to lose early to another ranked team. Seems to work out every year for some reason.

It's not a devastating loss. What was devastating was the way we looked when things went wrong. There are things there in that game that weren't fixable this season and haven't been fixed in over 3 years in some cases.
