Randy Moss is to be traded from the Vikings to the Raiders.Moss to be traded to Oakland, agent confirms Mark Craig, Star Tribune February 24, 2005 MOSS0224OL The Vikings and Oakland Raiders have agreed to a trade that will send Vikings receiver Randy Moss to the Raiders in exchange for the seventh overall pick in this year's draft, linebacker Napoleon Harris and a low-round draft pick this year, a person with knowledge of the situation said Wednesday.
"It's sort of a bittersweet moment for Randy," said his agent, Dante DiTrapano. "He had seven years in Minnesota, and he loved being a Viking. But, at the same time, this gives him a better chance to win a Super Bowl. The Oakland Raiders have vowed to use Randy like he has been used the past seven years, and that's throw the ball deep."
NFL trades can't become official until March 2. Because of that, the Vikings aren't able to comment on Moss' status.
"We've had discussions with the Raiders, but we have nothing to say about it," said Rob Brzezinski, Vikings vice president of football operations. "That's all we can say."
Moss has been rumored to be on the trading block since the end of a injury-plagued and controversial-filled 2004 season. Brzezinski said the Vikings did not shop Moss, and that the Raiders contacted them recently to initiate trade talks. Being a Vikings fan since birth, there were those two 'lost years' where I didn't despise Green Bay, I have mixed thoughts on this. Mike Tice is really lackluster, to put it mildy, as a head coach and without a receiving weapon, Daunte Culpepper will have to work even harder behind the line avoiding tackles. I am impressed with the amount Oakland is willing to give up to get him, though.

There are only a handful of deals that are equal to a Randy Moss (if that). This wasn't one of them.

Listening and reading a lot about possible Moss deals, this one is much better than a lot of people seemed to expect. Randy may not bounce back from his latest injury or he could run into another cop with his car. The cops in CA are less forgiving than the ones in MN.

Sounds like they are dumping him because he's a tool on the squad.
I can see that.

Most NFL trades don't really involve a lot of players. This is definitely a case of him getting dumped for being a douchebag. Thing is, without him, that team won't be anywhere near as good, no matter what kind of defensive talent they got. Losing him is what put them in the crapper this season anyway. Tice is a good guy, but not a good coach.

NFL trades aren't like MLB trades. You don't get stars for stars. You get 2 late picks and a sausage for a star. That's why there aren't many NFL trades.
Oakland is a good town for Randy. Nobody will care if he's a goon. They like goons.

Who is going to be the Raiders QB next year?
I would not have gotten rid of Moss. He's too good, and his antics aren't that bad. Some teams have guys that rape and murder people. I'll take a fake mooning over that.

Trades in the NFL are almost alays motivated by salary cap concerns. Forget the draft picks and players, my bet woudl be if you look deep enough this one is too.

People I know in Minnesota had been hoping to get a "reverse Herschel Walker" trade, but blunders like that are few and far between.

I think it's a good move for Minnesota. I think Nate Burleson is an emerging star; he's big, he's fast, he's tough and he has a decent set of hands. Marcus Robinson isn't a bad reciever either, he just tends to disappear at times. Kelly Campbell's mouth is bigger than his game. Plus, they've got a good catching TE in fatboy Wiggins. They could use the pick on another franchise reciever, but that guy would crack with the unrealistic expectations. They'll probably get a defensive lineman who will end up being another slug like Hovan.
Minnesota I think would also do well to deal one of their backs for a solid 2 or 3 reciever. I'm not sure what's going to be available this offseason for runners, but they've got a lot of talent in that backfield that's maybe getting 10 touches a game. Mewelde Moore really showed something last season and he's barely visible on the depth chart.
Randy's just a fucking cancer. A cancer with a bum leg that showed he couldn't come back from it, unlike TO who played like a madman with screws holding his ankle together. When you can't show more effort and heart than Terrel fucking Owens, you're not showing a lot of respect for your team. This is a guy that all but threw his coach under a bus before their playoff game. He's got no respect for anything but his goddamn hairdo.
Hey, maybe he'll transform Oakland into a contender again. Of course, with Collins under center, not likely. I'm not sure how Minnesota will do next season. I have feeling that if they start poorly, they'll just stop playing for Tice and sacrifice him to the pagan gods of football.

Burleson was on my FF team last year. I'll grab him high in the draft again if I can. With Moss gone he is the absolute go-to guy for HUGE yardage under the Vikings passing scheme. Mark that down kids.

Wiggins will get an assload of touches next year. If Minny had any clue, they'd trade off Moore, Bennett or Onterrio Smith for some decent defensive help. They got three backs that could probably start on other teams, or at the very least be a good backup/relief runner guy. Shit, you could probably play Mewelde Moore like Philly uses Brian Westbrook with no trouble.
But Minny's D is just fucking awful. They should have picked up more than just a "fading former first round pick" for Moss. I'm pretty sure the Raiders are about the only team who'd pick him up for more than peanuts. Having Moss on one side and Porter on the other will make whoever they put behind center very good. Collins, Gannon, whoever. If it's Collins, he'll still throw 2 or 3 INT's per game.

I could give a shit less about the defense, I'm talking strictly speculation here. I'm not picking them to go the distance. I just want to see them in a shootout every game with Burleson dancing in the end zone at least once or twice per. As far as Westbrook, he started my team last year and got bumped early. He is streaky and I don't like him. I got lucky also on picking up Droughns at exactly the right time in the season, so that helped.
