You call it an accident. I call it justice.

I am really really not liking the feel of this one. I grant that there's almost nowhere to with Tonto besides making him a super-serious politically correct Native American uber-warrior but Capn Jack Sparrowing him doesn't seem a preferable alternative.

I still have my grave fears, but at least the second trailer was a much better one.
But... yeah, still... very worried.

Far too much Captain Sparrow and too little William Blake (Dead Man)

Not surprising. It's directed, and written, by the same people that did PotC.

It's absolutely campy, over the top silliness. Any attempt to serious business this one is going to end in failure. It will be loud, funny and vapid.

The first pirates is a perfectly fine/good movie. the franchise went downhill quickly, sadly.

Yes. Because it took itself way too seriously, in fact. The second two are so plot-heavy--and so attentive to the thin, stupid mythology of the first--and so attentive to the least interesting characters. So do I think Verbinski et al have learned their lesson? No evidence that they have.

If they play this as a buddy cop movie that it seems to be, it could be a lot of fun.

That would probably make this movie more interesting to me.

Wild Wild West was the kind of silly loud and vapid show Haemish mentioned above. And I agree Lone Ranger will likely be the same. I'm ok with that as a general principal. But this movie does nothing for me. Just another vigilante in a mask, and there's more than enough of those to go around nowadays.
