I am going to buy my wife a laptop (web browsing, email, office, and she's anti-tablet) and I have to start hunting for deals. Anyone have any tips?
Is she going to be carrying this around? What's the budget?

I'm at a loss for what to get the girlfriend. I got her an iPad 2 last year so the bar is set a little high.
Get her an iPad Mini to replace that one -- Apple's stock needs a boost

I'll probably get the husband some flavor of Lego Technics to build. As for something to request for myself.. no clue. I don't really want for anything so books are always a good choice. Although, maybe I can convince the husband to just keep saving money so we can replace the TV downstairs. One of the circuit boards is going bad so we have to run the sound through the sound system now, plus the remote won't turn it on/off any longer (have to push the button on the front) AND I just discovered that we can't change it to watch DVDs or play games any more. One freaking little circuit board on the front on the damn thing and it's almost crippled. The upside is that 70" LCDs are coming down some since the 80"s were released. This is what we are replacing. This is what we are looking at. http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/HomeEntertainment/LCDTV/Models/LC70LE745U.aspx but without the 3D BS.

Get a DLP! Seriously, $1400 bones no tax, free ship from newegg...for a 73".
And you should play the sound through your sound system anyway :)

Don't get a DLP. They're for old people who don't have to pay for electricity.
I've got a penguin hat, a big box of chocolate, and a coat for her old lady cat for the gf for xmas. Though I may have to add a salami.

Careful that is the gateway drug... If the hobby hooks you, you'll be spending that on a set of blades by next year! Worth every penny though.

I'm personally looking for any kind of Le Creuset pots and pans for cooking.
I also want this, pretty much anything except what we already have, which isn't much cos it's so expensive! Also got a swanky toaster on my wish list. Realistically though I doubt anyone will be feeling flush enough to get me either of those things so I'll be perfectly happy with the usual assorted books, CDs and if I'm really lucky a bottle of whiskey or two :)

I used to buy xmas gifts for the hubby but rarely for anyone else but this year I've decided to get something for my two nephews and one of them has two kids. That's it. Just them and maybe a little something for my sister and her husband. Maybe. I

Inspired by the Tea thread here, I ordered my wife a Breville tea robot. I'm happy to finally have something to purchase her that doesn't come from Levinger or Fahrney's, I think it will truly be a surprise.

I bought myself an Xobx 360 bundle on newegg yesterday (came with skyrim). This will be the first time I have bought a "current" console since I bought a Dual Shock playstation in college.

Ahhh I get it now. Apparently my phone autocorrected it to Xobx (or didn't autocorrect at all).

I remember now! If your lovey one is science-y, here's an awesome idea: It's "I AM STARSTUFF" written in amino acid code. It's cool and pretty. It makes me miss Carl Sagan. Linksy to Xmas PressieThere is only one.

Check out Neil deGrasse Tyson, people call him the next Carl Sagan. Has a good podcast.

I do read him. All the time. He would even be my favourite atheist if he'd only admit to it. Bill Nye ALMOST admits it... or has he? I don't remember. In my little world of ideology, Richard Dawkins is more badass than both of them. Still miss Carl Sagan, though. He was cute.

I got Rocksmith for both my nephews... thank you for the recommendation, f13... zombie doll and sock monkey for my nephew's babies, Cthulhu decorations for my brother in law and dalek ones for one nephew and a batman light thingy signal for another, a very cool blue bird night light for my sister based on Lum's suggestion... geez, for nearly everything I was inspired by f13! Thanks!
Oh and for my flatmate, I'm leaving behind a pound of really good streaky bacon... also inspired by f13. I wish I could wrap up Calapine and deposit her under my nephew's tree. They would SO hit it off!

So my fiancee's mom loved my tv and wants one the same size. Since DLP apparently starts at 73" now, guess who's getting a 73" tv in return for giving mom mine? :) $1130 for the 73", delivered.
Getting my mom a macbook pro and a wireless xerox all-in-one colo laser printer.
Tech xmas for the seniors!

Honestly don't. Buy a nice Millenium Falcon model, it'd probably fly better than one of those anyway (trust me).

Something to do with the vastly superior app store, probably. As much as I prefer Android as a user experience the reluctance of people to release Android versions of things that exist in iOS is really frustrating.

Oh. I wouldn't worry too much, then. When he dies, what will you roll? I haven't decided! Technically the party could use something more useful, like a REAL arcane spellcaster, but I hate those. No, I don't know why the bard is acceptable but a sorcerer is not. I'll probably just make them rez me and torment them with my pointless self. <3

I stopped getting my folks tech gifts. When I first started I didn't realize the fine print included 24/7 customer support for the rest of their natural (soon to be unnatural) known life. On the other hand I have no fucking idea what to put on my gift list as I don't really want anything. So I put a bunch of stupid shit up there like http://www.amazon.com/Gurren-Lagann-Core-Drill-Necklace/dp/B0027BOD94 and some other "neat" stuff like Ronald Jenkees CDs. I don't know when it happened but at some point I either ran out of things I wanted or they stopped making things worth wanting.

Welcome to my world. For the last 6-7 years there really hasn't been anything I've "wanted" or put on a list for anyone. It's just... I feel like I've got all of what I need now so there's no need to accumulate more stuff when what I have still works just fine (like my 4 year old desktop, 6 and 9 year old MP3 players, etc).
