Worked my way back to the core. Ironwood's visit to Yoru reminded me I need to grind out faction with some engineer-related parties, so I turned in my ~3.5M credits worth of data in there. Had a few pages of firsts, so that was kinda neat. Bumped me from neutral to friendly with Party of Yoru, so now I have Nemo unlocked. Found a decent shipyard a jump away and transferred all my goodies to it last night. Now to grind up tech levels and get some good weapons.

It is like a 3 jump run to Xihe, and they are dirt cheap. The longest wait I had was the hour for my 32T cargo hold to transfer!

I just made Viscount with the Empire.  Doing it was actually easy, the hardest part was wrapping my ship in green foil.

Dav's Hope? Yeah... did that many times. It's the WalMart of materials. Just don't come from the direction of that mountain... it's a bitch to fly over (and run into...)

Nice! I will have to boogie out there and stock up. I don't suppose there is any way to upgrade the amount of stuff you can hold?

I wish.  The 500 data limit sucks hard.  However, you can constantly browse Inara to find out what shit you're carrying is 'the most' useless to you.   Ohhhhh, I see.

That really is shit. Data has 500 limit but materials has 1000. I mean come on...

I tend to keep 15 of all the NEED mats and data, 5-10 for everything else.

I just finished reading Reclamation, the first of the official Elite Dangerous novels by Drew Wagar, which drive the in-game plot developments. I was a bit unsure at first as I spotted some bad punctuation (I do that for a living), but it turned out to be a great read and I now understand the lore better. I really enjoyed it. So I've just bought the new sequel, Premonition, which is supposed to be even better (the one for which Harry Potter killed Salome... but by all accounts that is handled well).

Hello, I'm bored at work. I've grown a fleet with my exploration and Road to Riches cash (and hit Elite Explorer).

Python "Luskentyre" - well-equipped for both combat and exploration, for day-to-day bubble-region tasks (currently still finishing Road to Riches).
Anaconda (tradeconda) - min/maxed for trading to Elite.
Asp Explorer "Scarpa" - main long-haul exploration ship.
Diamondback Explorer "Giant Leap" - retired exploration ship with peeled paint. Currently stripped.
Cobra Mk III "Fun" - A-rated combat Cobra because it's just so nice to fly.
Adder "Shuttle" - set up for max jump range and exploration including SRV, to watch and participate in crowded Open events (e.g. Thargoid bases) without much rebuy risk.
Hauler "Colonia Taxi Service" - fully equipped and left this at Colonia Hub while I was there, in case Frontier ever implements a fast-travel method of getting to Colonia (e.g. NPC passenger shuttle) so I could get around there if ever needed.

My best 5A engineered FSD gets transferred between the Python, Asp, and DBX as needed.

Elite: Dangerous and Horizons (and the combined Commander Deluxe Edition) are back on special on Steam: 33% off.

Also I found it interesting to look at Canonn Research's page of unsolved things. I haven't been able to play much in the last 2 weeks due to work, gardening, home renovation, and life, but I got back into it last night.

Current aims: finish last 120 planets of Road to Riches, gather engineering materials and engineer my fleet, go out on a long exploration trip again, start flying my tradeconda, and decide whether my alt account stays in the bubble as a Thargoid fighter or becomes my exploration account. Hmm. Lots to do.

You know how there are 400 billion star systems in the Milky Way galaxy? And you get how incomprehensible that number is when you do a bit of exploration in Elite: Dangerous.

Well, according to NASA there are at least 2000 billion galaxies in the observable universe. Have I lost you? I've lost me.

In other news, I am finally onto unlocking Palin... Flying aimlessly 5000ly away. I have very little  interest in exploring so this is just a flat out grind of jump to star, scoop, jump to next star, scoop - all while honking and zooming on. Thankfully I decided to buy a DBX and kit it out for jump range as best I could so jumping the 1k ly hops is only ~20 jumps. Still... this is horribly boring.

Occasionally I'll pull up a system map and check out the planets which have all been found already so I am not spending too much time on that. I might get a bit more into scanning planets in the systems when I get +4k out and I need to take a break from beating my head against my chair.

All I can tell you is get a podcast to listen to. I listened to recordings of people playing RPGs. Doing it without that is a recipie for insanity.

The worst way to travel is repetitive jump-honk-scoop-jump. Drives you fucking crazy. I did 21,000 LY back from Colonia that way and it broke me.

You have to mix it up with some planetary scanning. And if your route is even slightly off-centre from the direct route (a bit of up/down/left/right during course plotting), once you get beyond about 1000 LY from the bubble, you will find they're all totally undiscovered, unexplored systems that you can claim by selling the Detailed Surface Scans. Eventually you WILL find something fucking cool that nobody else has been to (in a procedurally generated Milky Way, but still).

And podcasts, yes.

Don't scoop at every star either. The Scoop pause can be a nice way to break the trip into 5 jump chunks.

Unless you're like me and stripped your DBX down to the smallest possible fuel tank for increased jump range, which means you HAVE to scoop at every star :)

I'm not that insane. I'm 3k out and found a few stars claimed and the 40-50 odd objects around the star completely devoid of any info. I'm scanning through every few jumps if they have unclaimed stuff. Still, exploration is not my bag of tea.
