Someone has put together a couple of new patches and demos for Thief 2 and System Shock 2. I haven't read all through the relevant threads to see is anything is known about exactly who it is that's done this nor why, but the brief skimming I did seems to indicate that they're real and awesome.
And there's much more than that snippet in the full notes.
If you've never played either of these games then they are classics, well worth your time. I'm not sure if System Shock 2 is available anywhere now but Thief 2 is on GOG and Steam.
If I get time this week I'll install Thief 2 and give the patch a go. Unfortunately I have no idea where my SS2 disc is... possibly lost and gone now :(
"Bourgeois society stands at the crossroads, either transition to socialism or regression into barbarism" - Rosa Luxemburg, 1915.
This is tempting. I don't know where my Thief 2 game is, doubt I have the cd anywhere but It's up on steam for $2.49 (only for 20 more hours it seems though)
Hooooooleeeee shiiiiiiiit. I fucking love a community where people are still putting time and effort into improving a thirteen-year-old game for no money.
Especially when the thirteen-year-old game remains my favorite game of all time. Time to reinstall some SHODAN...
Just hit the major reveal mid-way through SS2 and no complaints at all. The only annoyance I had to take care of was scaling the UI but turns out that's just un-commenting some shit in a config file. I love me some SS2. Personal top five at the least. I don't think I've played a game with better sound design, or villain now that I think about it.
One thing I always do that improves the crap out of SS2 is to turn off the soundtrack. The techno music really distracts from the atmosphere. Walking down a hallway in dead silence but for the hum of the ship around you dials the creepy factor up to 11.
