So from his official website, it appears that Harry Harrison has passed away at the ripe old age of 87. I grew up reading his Stainless Steel Rat books and loved them.

Sad to hear that. He wrote some interesting stories like "A Transatlantic Tunnel, Hurrah!" (one of my favorite books by him)

I loved the first three or so Stainless Steel Rat books. Back when an antihero of that kind was a really original twist. I remember thinking that Slippery Jim and Retief would have made a great team-up. I almost wonder if Harrison and Laumer ever did that, in fact.

Bill the Galactic Hero was one of my favorite series as a kid. Even before I understood that it was deliberate satire, specifically of Starship Troopers and mirroring The Good Soldier, it was those books that gave me my first example of the ridiculousness and nonsensical nature of bureaucracy, military or otherwise, just as I was starting to become old enough to understand. It is view I try and maintain to this day, and for that vision I wholeheartedly thank him.

Is anyone locking down his estate?  Hopefully there's no one in the way of doing a movie/TV deal perhaps because I still have dreams of watching Clooney as Slippery Jim (if he's not too old by then).  Dunno who'd play Angelina though - not Jolie though pls.  Thoughts?  My 1st choice was Kat Dennings but she's a bit too short and frumpy.  Maybe Lake Bell?  Gotta be an actress with some wit and snark to her.  Charlize Theron might be the one perhaps.  If not Uma Thurman.  They'll have to be heavily "done-up" though.

Bummer to hear,   I loved those books when I was younger.

Damn.  One of the my favorite authors when I was young.

Time to fire up Amazon and order his entire collection!  I may even let the kids read them when I am done...

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.
