Quote from: Darkfall devs
The specifics of our promotion are now available. The following was prepared by our marketing department.

Get Darkfall for the price of the subscription
The subscription fee reduction to 9.95.
Max-out Skill-up Increase

Skill-up by 20x the normal skill-up rate and max-out your character in no time at all.

Global loot has been quadrupled.

Village control points go active every 6 hours instead of every 12

Date: Starting Monday July 2nd – until Darkfall 2.0 launches.

Return to Darkfall

Darkfall subscribers, old and new, can come back to Darkfall for free for 2+2 days

Dates: July 2nd-July 4th and July 9th – July 11th

Get Darkfall for the Price of the Subscription

The Darkfall client price has been taken away, and you can now get Darkfall for the price of the subscription, reduced by approximately 35% to 9.95€ or $9.95.

Dates: Starting Monday July 2nd – until Darkfall 2.0 launches.

Times:

The promotion starts on Monday, July 2nd (14:00 GMT, 07:00 PST).

We will also apply a patch that apart from the increased skill gains and loot drops will also address the stamina bug as well as some issues with sieges. Complete patch notes will be posted on Monday. Also, the development team would like you to know that the skill ups only apply until the skill reaches level 99. This is so that surges occur at the rate they do now and not at an increased rate because of the increased skill ups.

I have quite a few friends playing Darkfall, and nearly all of them love it, though they complain that the grind is too long and the playerbase needs to grow. It'll be interesting to see if this helps.

Miracle patch?

Nope, basically a fundamental rewriting of the game to the extent that it becomes a sequel. Same game 'concept', but all-new systems (including all the core skill systems), all-new art assets, engine upgrade, etcetera.  It's slated to come next year, and they've been kind of mum on whether it'll replace the current Darkfall (possibly with a server wipe), be launched as a true sequel, or what.

If this was F2P with a cash shop I would absolutely keep it installed. It really has some fun bits to it, and blowing through the grind would make it a hell of a lot more fun. Still too much world for the population, and too dependent on a guild for survival.

Are there any games in this same niche (full world PvP with consequences and no preset factions) that have come out since then? Archeage is the next one I see on the calendar... If that's not your niche, I can see why DF wouldn't appeal, but I can't imagine it would have fared much better with such a person a couple of years ago.

Too late. Dont care anymore. Too busy playing TSW so I can finish it before GW2 comes out. And when that gets old hopefully archeage will be out.  Darkfall - where grind was everything .

Maybe they can compete with FFXIV 2.0 which makes me wonder is 2.0 is the new 1.0?   Isnt Wowganon doing a 2.0?

"Darkfall 2.0" is basically them holding back 2-4 years worth of content updates for one big "re-launch", so screwing existing customers.

They should have done this shit 3 years ago when the population started collapsing because most people couldn't stand the heavy skill grind. This massive grind diminishment might have prevented the loss of population critical mass which then just compounded the gameplay quality issues (since as a political PvP game, more players/factions = better content). Instead they were a bunch of Greek morons who decided instead to lie to everybody about the status of imminent upcoming and much needed content improvements, trying to string players along, and eventually admitting they're turning them all into "DF2.0" 2 years later.

Somehow these dumbasses actually managed to produce a really good PvP engine, great physics, decent balance, mostly bug free, very intense action, but without the content it's basically a large open world quake game with cities being the CTF objective and the persistent nature creates a political dynamic between player factions. If you are curious and looking for that kind of MMOFPS this would be a good time to try it out, but it's not the sandbox RPG world people really want. As darkfall players are want, the sandbox is missing the sand.

Agree that this is actually the perfect time to play Darkfall.

Seriously fast skill gains. By the time the 24 hours of play time Newbie Protection wears off, you will have Maxed out one, or two weapon skills with mastery up to 75, or so.
Magic schools all unlocked, most of the necessary spells got. Maybe you might need to spend a little meditation to get Spell Chanting up.
Stats won't be maxed in this first day of play, but you won't be so bad, and these are raising fast too.

If you played before but gave up on the grind, you will be very surprised.
If you have never played, seriously it's one of the best experiences you can have for $10 a month (about the price of ketchup).

The UI still blows, but if you just rebind a few things until you get too many spells, you'll be fine.
Take a look at some of the guides, on the forums while you are downloading the client.

Even if pvp is not your thing, the pve in Darkfall is actually very good.

By the way Speedy, are you from Troy? They can't help being Greek, they were born that way.
