Finally, I can walk around Orgrimmar without an urge to take my own life.  I am surprised that Blizzard reversed on this: I'm betting it came down to a GM resource issue, ie, too much GM time spent investigating casino fraud.  Well done:  an MMO company made a change that 99% of people like, how rare is that?

All life begins with Nu and ends with Nu.  This is the truth!  This is my belief! At least for now...

Not rare if you're playing Puzzle Pirates, City of Heroes, ATiTD, or oh, wait, rhetorical question.

I was going to post about this.  I've never even seen a casino, and I spend decent time in big towns.

Was it a Horde thing maybe, or just didn't catch on on my server?  And it was player-run?

Witty banter not included.

Yeah, player run. It didn't take off in Dragonmaw until about 2 days ago. What happened then is you'd get people stripping naked (I don't know why) and dancing on the posts of the bridge outside the IF bank. They'd spam advertisements in general chat and /s, sometimes also /y. Then you'd get all the /random spam as well. Very annoying, and it's good that it's going away.

I've never been subjected to it either, Jayce, or have I seen the spam.  I suppose it's a good thing, though.  People seem to hate it.  To me, it just sounds like something that if you fall for a scam involving gambling, it's your own fault, and if you dislike spam you can turn off the channel.  The gamblers could have probably put off the complaints themselves by just making a channel for it and passing the word.  Those who want to partake would surely find them.  I don't see much of a problem here, myself.  If people want to gamble, why not?

Edit:  Actually, Righ just explained what happens.  Hundreds and hundreds of people will gather in one area for this and the entire continent will lag badly.  I suppose since when I play it's almost always in the day time, when it's much quiete, and that it only seems to be Alliance who do it on Earthen Ring caused me to miss all the fun and games.  Anything that makes a game lag like that should be banned, I suppose.  Like GvG wars in Shadowbane.   tongue

I never saw this in my server, but I could see how its annoying. Although, my general chat is always off so I may just have not noticed. In any case, I've run guild events like football pools and various betting things on sporting events outside the game, but mostly just for fun within the guild. I've never used it to make money.

Maybe they should have ingame gambling casinos... there isn't a lot of social aspects to the game.  I don't consider naked NEs dancing around a cooking fire to be particularly social.  Same with CoH.  Of course, the casinos in SWG were like tombs, so maybe not.

It was my impression that all of SWG was like a tomb, not just the casinos.

One man's 'massive' is another man's 'haha'. You could add Meridian 59, Clan Lord or any other smaller population game to that list. CoH is special, being elegantly simple and all. It's more difficult to keep people happy when there are more of them and you have enough complexity to attract many playstyles. Most MMOG companies do try.

You can turn off general.

You can /ignore the casino operators.

You cannot/ ignore the dozen fucktards who /random and bitch when they lose as /ignore has a limit.

I wondered what the heck that was about. The only spam I ever saw about this was from Blizzard, last night.

On my server this was getting out of hand.  My ignore list has been full for weeks just from idiots spamming their casino odds on every channel possible.  Of course they just have to do it right in front of the AH also so you can't really avoid them.  Glad they finally did something about it.

I ran into them on my second day.  They seemed to be based by the AH in Ironforge on ER.  I didn't notice much spam, but I did notice hundreds of people and tones of lag.  I thought it was because of the AH, though.

Anything that causes lag and spam needs to die.  Though I do believe having in-game casinos away from already-high-pop areas would be a great idea.  I mean more in the style of Dragon Warrior though, not some douchbag using an RNG.
