And they can just pay the one-time fee to transfer to where their friends are.  It's not like it's a big deal.  And only relevant to WvW.  If their friends are just PvE it doesn't matter in any event.

As for the "I want to play with my friends" bullshit excuse for wanting free WvW server movement, anyone who didn't even know which server to pick ahead of time with their so-called close "friends" deserves to be fucking friendless.

OK?

In any case, server PVP skill is a tricky thing to nail down.  In WoW I played on 4 different servers, and the disparity between win/loss ratios in TB, WG, and Battlegrounds was huge.  Like huge.  Either one side always won everything, or it was somewhat balanced, or whatever weird pattern.  The point is, how can anyone know what server to pick in GW2 without waiting a year to see the stats play out?  Might as well pick a server at random and roll with it.

Unless every single good player only joins one server, it shouldn't be an issue anyways as long as they do a good enough job at pairing up servers for the battles.  Then the hardcore WvW guilds will be facing the other hardcore guilds and not a server that's 90% zerg.

That's entirely dependent on win rate, no? The servers that win a lot will be at the top, regardless of what their method for winning is. if 'being awesome and having lots of small groups' wins, and 'zerging into a mighty uberzerg' wins, then those people will still be playing each other.

Well, true.  The same end result being that (hopefully) no server winds up either trouncing or being trounced by all competition.

I don't think the world PvP system is guaranteed to work. But it does over-come the guaranteed to fail system we've had up till now of expecting the factions to be remotely balanced and provide a good foundation.

Even if you do get a "god" server they'll still be fighting the best of the rest who may well be motivated to beat them and no opponent will be facing them continuously since it rotates. While the average servers can watch it as entertainment without any fear they'll be thrown into the meat grinder.

Indeed from a personal point of view a "god" server would be excellent. The "I'm so bad-ass" people can go there and test their virtual manhood while I play along with the casuals and bads.

Well, true.  The same end result being that (hopefully) no server winds up either trouncing or being trounced by all competition.

Less likely to be an issue I think since the focus of self-selection will be lower. The serious PvP crowd might flock to one server, but they'll leave all the non-contenders equally.

Count me in, my WoT clan shows 0 interest right now.  Hopefully by the time BC hits its expiration date some of the people in the clan will have discovered the game.

VOIP with Helm would be so awesome. I'd do my garbled Ahnold impression the entire time, speaking my horrid pidgeon deutsch.

Which, oddly enough, is also my plan if I have to go work with Iain some day.

I can understand common German pretty well due to a childhood of being yelled at in German by my mother and grandmother.   Unfortunately, my spoken German is pretty terrible.

(insert 'gunther tra la la' youtube link here)

Here in Hungary everyone needs to learn at least one language alongside English. Our teacher was a huge trekkie (once he even came to school in his starfleet uniform). Incidentally, my first/last experience with star trek was the "Borg" episode from TNG that we watched in German during class.

Then there was a test. /sadface

Guesting will not be in for this beta event, but if you mean release, woo

So have we actually picked a server yet? This thing lights up tomorrow at noon Pacific, so should be playable by sunday.

I'll probably go Fort Aspenwood. Just because (and because I don't think the majority of Slap is picking this up this early)

I've been reading up on server transfers and I think we have it wrong. Someone earlier posted that you were stuck with the server you created your first character on, but from my reading of arena.net's blog, http://www.arena.net/blog/choosing-and-transferring-worlds-in-guild-wars-2 you can transfer your home world for WvW, once every 7 days.

Anyone know if they are doing some kind of LFD tool? I haven't seen it mentioned.

You are stuck with your home server without RMT payments for transfers (the gems thing). For the BWE, we will be given enough gems to do it, if you really want to.

What is NOT in this BWE is guesting. You won't be able to play with people on another server in PvE without transferring.
