Haven't seen anything here on the new portable gaming system from Sony and was wondering what people thought of it since its releasing this week. It seems like an improvement over the PSP (which I have and liked) but with a few "wtf" features like front and rear facing cameras and Sony made only memory cards (you have to buy one, 4GB is the smallest, since it doesn't come included). Any thoughts?

I only demo'd one in the store. I'd snag one for $100, but that's about it.
Games look great - the Uncharted demo was maybe between PS2 and PS3 in graphics and play.
Load times were abysmal. I think I waited 3 full minutes for the demo to load.
Also, 3G... why? I'm not paying ATT another bill.

It's at least $50 too expensive for me to bother, especially given the new proprietary storage media required (also overpriced at 32 GB for $100).
I'm hoping that they'll port the new Lumines game to another platform.

Heh, I thought it was a Memory Stick but it's something else entirely? Fuck off, Sony.

The best part is that from what I've read, the Sony SD cards are literally nothing but normal SD cards with the pins flipped around.
And from what I've heard, most Vita games take up about 2-4 GB of space on a card, so that space can fill up fairly quick.

Sony did something similar awhile back with their camera cards IIRC. When I whored myself out at BBY, I remember those sticks... they were longer than regular memory sticks. I kept telling myself those were the firewire of digital cameras. *shrug

Yea, well I've already bought a Memory Stick for the PSP, and for a while I could also use it in my PS3, but this is just dumb. This is coming from someone who has three consoles wired to his TV (five if you count the GameCube and the PS2).

ARISE!
I'm picking one of these up today. I tried to resist but with the Disgaea 3 port coming out tomorrow I can no longer hold out. I managed to find a used one, so after that discount plus a bunch of trade-ins I'm only going to be paying ~$40 out of pocket for the system itself. I'm only buying the WiFi one; I already have AT&T for my cell service and their 3G sucks in my area.
Did anyone else pick one up? If so, is there anything out on it worth playing, or am I going to be playing nothing but Disgaea til Gravity Rush comes out?

As much as I bemoaned the cost and 'yet another Sony format', I bit this past Sunday since GameStop was/is giving away a free game with purchase and I had $50 in GS gift cards laying about. So far, I like the hardware (particularly the screen), though the initial setup was retarded. I picked up Hot Shots Golf and Lumines with the hardware, and can recommend both as solid installments in each series/franchise, but I'd imagine most people here know what they're getting into with each of those titles - if you liked previous HSG/Lumines titles, you'll like the new ones.

Oh good call, I forgot about Lumines. I played the hell out of that on the PSP; it will definitely be my next Vita purchase.

The thing about Lumines on PSVita that really disappointed me was that the game chugged every time I got a Trophy. I need to figure out how to turn that crap off. Lumines on PSP just never had problems like that.

I think that's just a modern Playstation thing. The PS3 will lag a bit on certain games when you earn one too.
Got Disgaea, loving it. It's a very faithful port; doesn't look like you can get the DLC characters until the postgame though, which is a bit of a disappointment. Would have been nice to have some of them the whole way through.

Arise! I bought a Vita today and am looking for a few games that are decent to good. It came with Borderlands 2, but I am expecting that to be awful, and I bought MLB 14: The Show. I really enjoyed Fight Night Round 3 for the PSP as well as Hot Shots Golf, so if there's sequel's to those games or something like them, I'd be interested in that. Any suggestions or does nobody use the Vita anymore?

Definately reccomend Gravity Rush. Think of it like a Steam Punk GTA style missions / free-roam game where the protagonist is a Female Version of Magneto who conrolls gravity instead of magnetism. I would honestly kill to have someone make a full on PS3 / 4 version of this game.

I thought Gravity Rush was terrible. But then, the Vita has been pretty terrible thus far. :(

I love my Vita - got one for christmas and consider it an absolute star. Fantastic piece of tech and some fun games.
Tearaway, Guacamelee, Soul Sacrifice, Demon Gaze, Person 4 Golden, Murumasa rebirth, Gravity Rush - all great, interesting games. Plus if you are a PS+ subscriber you seem to get absolutely ridiculous amounts of games for free (I've only actually bought two of the games on that list).

If you like SRPGs, Disgaea 3 is fantastic on Vita since it comes with all of the DLC. Touch My Katamari is a blast, and P4G is a must buy.

I also enjoyed Danganronpa, which is probably easiest to compare to the Phoenix Wright games. Crime>Investigate>Trial>Verdict adventure game. Makes a lot of really smart quality of life improvements though, like the ability to press a button and highlight everything that is interactive in a room so that you aren't just randomly clicking things, or a map with quick-travel and icons to show where characters you need to talk to are. I also liked the story (high school murder mystery), YMMV.
Like Maledict mentioned, the PS+ offerings for Vita are usually pretty great. I've purchased a total of 3 games for the system since I got it, but I regularly need to remove games from my memory card to make room for new free stuff.
