Just so you know, that link is something you open with Path of Building.

If you don't have PoB yet, get it downloaded, it's really useful.

Draegan is doing that thing we do where we assume everyone knows all about PoE.  why so serious?

Storm Brand is really strong.  I watched some of the race the other day and most of the racers were playing Storm Brand.  It's not quite as strong as Arc, but the Brand Recall makes it optimal for speed clearing.

It's what I'm using.

I can confirm, it's really, really strong.  Not as much damage as the big ole meteor brand, but stroooong.

I'm using Storm Brand as well to proc EE and EO with RF. Guess that means it'll get nerfed soon.

Everyone tries a zombie witch at first so I'll let you into a secret that wounds me to the core :

Zombies are shit in this game.

I've only just got into the game again so I'll keep going until I hate the build. Moved into skele/zombies for now.

If it doesn't work out, I'll reroll my old L26 standard league ranger and work out what might be fun to play on her.

Zombies/skeletons/Specters seems to work - it got me through Act 3 but I'd been running all the zones and feel over leveled for the mobs. Still having fun with it, I'm waiting for it to all unravel and end in tears. I'm also trying to hold off on buying cosmetics.

Still leveling the Occultist Vortex / Cold Snap and I can say that focusing more on my resists (was advised to hit at least 75%) has made a huge difference.  It pains me to take a passive that is primarily "+8% to all resists" but it has started to make a difference cumulatively.

You can get all your resists from gear and then respec that node.  My main is a 93 Occultist running Vaal Cold Snap with 100% uptime and Vortex for tougher enemies.  I'm able to obliterate all content just by Shield Charging around the zone.  If you have any questions let me know!

Thanks!   I'm at 73 now and getting into Atlas maps.  I leveled a bunch of stuff on my back bar (Freezing Pulse, Artic Breath, Frost Bomb) but I've pared it down to Vaal Cold Snap, Vortex, Glacial Cascade, Discipline, and Phase Run.

I do have a question - Herald of Ice. Yes or no for this type of build?  I thought yes due to the +cold on spells, but I can't run Discipline and HoI concurrently with all the reserved mana.  But I'm also reading that I should be looking at running Blood Magic Support to offset that.  Any input?

You should just have one attack skill. That's all you need. Then everything else to support it.

I liked minion witch and played one for delve to level 88 without too many problems. I went full minion using 2 raging spirit totems as the main dps (in addition to the usual full complement of minions) and vaal skeleton for boss fights.
For the current league I went with fire chieftain using multi-target molten strike and armageddon brand which seemed to work ok (till I got once again bored with POE for now)

Yeah, I'm going to reiterate here :  I have a few summoners, Skellies and other summons are good, but for some reason Zombies just never keep target.  They're awful.  They put out just as good DPS when they're hitting, but the disengage range is stupid.  That said, why you wouldn't just run skeleton mages is anyones guess.

As to using Blood magic, be careful here ;  some low life builds specifically gear around using blood magic, but if you're not also an energy shield build, it can get pretty dicey.  Try to bear in mind at all times what your protection is.  It's either gonna be Mana, Life or ES and if you choose one specifically STICK TO THAT AND STACK IT.

I'm always amazed at the pro ES players 'cause they end up with scary stupid numbers in the tens of thousands and I have no fucking idea how they manage it.  I think my top ES was 6k and that was pushing it for me.

But yeah, PoE is very much a game of 'THIS IS MY SKILL AND I PEW WITH IT AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS MERELY BOOSTING THAT SKILL'.  Wife constantly tries to use multilple attack skills and it never ever ever works.

Yeah, but I'm just talking about how many different key presses you have to make normally. Typically, with one attack it's just one button press. With the above, it's 2.

Also Brand and Brand Recall.

I love Brand Recall.  It's my main.  To be honest, if I could put Brand on 'Cast on hit or Crit' I probably would.  It's the recall that BLOWS THEM UP.

But you only get 8 fucking buttons anyway, so it's not like you can have a huge spread anyway !

Manually cast brand spells and put recall on cast when damage taken.

Or get a staff and 6 link it for a brand skill then enchant it for it to cast when you use a skill. Then use brand recall manually. Should work.

You don't need Herald of Ice because your main concern should be scaling the Damage Over Time component of both (Vaal) Cold Snap and Vortex.  Those are the only two offensive spells you need, you can drop Glacial Cascade as well.  The DoTs for Cold Snap and Vortex stack so you can drop them both on top of tougher enemies.  I would start leveling another Vortex so that when your main one gets to 20 you can roll it over to +20% and then slot in your backup while you re-level it.

Edit -> Here are my links:

Since I'm running a 100% Vaal Cold Snap build I actually run:
Vaal Cold Snap - Increased Duration - Efficacy - Bonechill - Hypothermia (from my Shaper Helm)

You'd want to run:
Vaal Cold Snap - Hypothermia - Efficacy - Bonechill

Vortex - Swift Affliction - Efficacy - Hypothermia - Controlled Destruction - Concentrated Effect

If you must cast 2 spells at least make a EE build I guess?

I may try a HC 3-man (4 would be ideal but I don't think we have a 4th) 100% grouped run, see if we can not RIP and have fun. But figuring out decent party setups/plans is vexing. All builds are based on 100% solo + buying all needed gear/full quality skill gems off market.

I run Storm Brand in a Malachai's Artifice for proccing EE.  For my variation of this build I cast Vaal Cold Snap and simply Shield Charge around the map clearing it and recasting it as needed, most things die before I get anywhere near them (massively increased AoE).  When I come across Betrayal content is the only time the build gets a little busy.  That's when I drop a Storm Brand or two and with Vaal Cold Snap still running charge in and drop a Vortex or two.  From there I can just kite while keeping them in my Vaal Cold Snap AoE and hit them with regular Cold Snap as necessary (usually only if I'm in a T15 map).

Fuck Betrayal Shit. I'm just finding it more annoying and grindy than leveling masters. The Mastermind fight was tedious, and having a hit team pop in when I'm taking on a tough boss fight is just dick-stabby.

The 3-man BHC 100% partied weekend went off. We got like 9 hrs of playime in give or take. L38's now in the very early going on Act4, killed Koam and Darreso (sp?) before we ended yesterday. We did have some early build swaps. But it got settled and going pretty quickly.

We've ended up with a Molten Jugg build. A Caustic Arrow Deadeye and what may end up being an Aura Guardian but for now is just Conduit for frenzy(via Glacial cascade) & endurance charges(via Enduring Cry) + temp chains or flammability. Next up is figuring out best aura(s) to run on him. Our ST dmg a little lacking but we seem to have hit a decent stride atm and I think we'll breeze to end of Act4 maybe if nobody RIP's.

Syndicate forts are a massive waste of time partied. We basically 100% skip them. Also the Syndicate doesn't work for shit in a party because you only advance 1 player's syndicate (whoever created the zone). So typical GGG. Completely different from how I feel about it when I tried solo. Besides that the rippiest shit was lots of beasts at once somewhere in Act2, City of Sarn with a fort and beasts and the normal rare/uq bosses @ the WP & tbh Koam fight was pretty bananas but we also should have done more like swapping to ruby rings/flasks most likely. In Act3 I think general whatshisface ended up being more fearsome than Dom or Piety.

I got my Storm Brand build into T9ish maps. I got bored of the game play. Started an Essence Drain build. The build was buffed this patch so I'm checking it out. Only in Act 3ish right now. I think my next build will be some flavor of cast on crit type builds. Maybe something with Cast on Crit Heavy Strike with Impale buffs? Dunno. Maybe a Cyclone build.

So the last time I played this was 2013 (I even found I had a bronze kiwi) and got a ranger to 26. Last night I hit 74 using the Speaker of the Dead witch build and am having a ball. The only downside is it looks like I need to play a lot more Delve to get the 5 and 6 socket receipes so that I can try and socket Belly of the Beast with 4B 2G. Playing a minion setup reminds me of the Diablo 2 necro, so fun

The campaign was enjoyable although the dialogue seems to run on forever. Now I just need to work out what to do in the epilogue.

Our 100% 3-man HC run had some RIP's finally at Innocence. We were blind to fight mechanics and the bullet hell just did more damage than could be handled even w/ max fireres, def could have been avoided with better micro, or if we had stopped and made a point of gearing up before. We were considering stopping and doing some delve etc. should have.

backup chars are ready or being readied so we'll give it another crack. I had watched a full fight mechanic video on the big heart falls out demon too.. underestimated the bullet hell thing even though i knew vaguely about it. can just tp scum it esp w/ 3 people i think.

Innocence is a rough fight but not *too* bad once you're used to the mechanics. Kitava basically guarantees I'll never play hardcore again - too much damage on moves that are poorly telegraphed or that you can't see because ground sludge forced you to move away from him, paired with a DPS check add phase that really has no place in leveling content. If I were better at the game or played non-meme builds I could handle it, but I'm not and I don't.

I just can't bring myself to play HC, I found it too stressful in D3 and PoE is much more of a challenge.

Having said that, I have my Witch Necro sitting at 79 with 4.5K life and 75/75/75/27 resists and the meatshield of 2 Specters, 8 zombies and 11 skeles (non-Vaal) plus a herald of agony means that I can run around dodging shit... until my ball lighting/channeled dash/CWCS launches me into the middle of a pack because something interrupted it. I need more gem slots but am still trying to get more life passive skills. Right now the annoying thing is that I want to get a Belly of the Beast to 4B/2G sockets but looked at how far I need to go into Delve to do that... and I've only just hit the 3 socket recipes from Delve so no point.

Betrayal - I have NFI what I'm doing and don't care. I'm not sure who the final boss is and stopped thinking I needed to worry. Delve is much more fun and I'm a bit 'meh' about temple incursions.

Now I just need another fun class to play. I did level a marauder, but with only a week left of my holidays, I'm not sure how far I will get.

I'm still having a blast with this league.  This is the most I've ever played PoE in one league.  Previously my highest character was a 92 Blade Flurry Assassin in Breach and this season I've already got a 94 Vortex/Cold Snap Occultist and a nearly 96 Ascendant Storm Brand character.  The Ascendant Storm Brand is the first time I've built my own successful character and it's turning out to be stronk.  I decided I was going to push 100 and Delve 600+ with it so I've turned it into the most survivable character I've ever played and it still has amazing DPS.  Only at depth 352 so far, but it's handling extremely rippy biomes with ease.

Upgrading stuff is all you use it for, so you just keep yourself upgraded and topped up.  Delve is all about the Fossils.  You want to find those hidden walls and side tunnels and get those fucking fossils.

So you want a lot of flares and bigger flares too.

If you need currency to beef up your build then what Ironwood said.  Fossils sell like mad and quite a few of them are worth multiple chaos each.  There's also the mirror one that's worth @1ex.  When you aren't looking for Fossils you just want to dig straight down as deep as you can go.  The deeper you go the more interesting nodes you start to find and things like Vaal and Abyssal cities.  The cities are filled with chests of loot that can drop maps.  When you are deep enough they can drop T16 maps which is awesome for map sustain.

Edit:  This was shortly after I posted the above.  Two T16 Elder maps from 1 chest.  That's priceless for me right now trying to get enough Elder maps for sustain to push towards 100.

Will those hidden walls be visible on the minimap from the safe area, or should I be wandering around randomly in the darkness flaring? I've never used a flare nor seen a hidden wall.
