As with most everyone else, I accept blind invites if I see the person on my screen and it's obvious we're about to work on the same quest / fight off some gankers / whatever. I also invite anyone who runs up while I'm fighting a named / quest mob (and slow down on damage so they get a chance to join before the mob bites it). In Rift I used the autogroup button all the time.

However, most of the time blind invites are powerlevel requests / begging / etc, in my experience. As a rule of thumb, if it's not obvious why we should group (like, you're in a different zone), buy me dinnersend me a tell first. And yeah, I answer every tell - even if the request consists of a single, misspelled, monosyllabic word.

I will say I really liked Rift's open groups, but I sort of get the people who raged that it defaulted to on.

Gotcha. Now that I think of it, in other games I've just declined blind invites as a rule, but it's rarely the situation I'm talking about. TOR has a LOT of places where a quick temp group makes good sense AND I'm the one always doing the inviting, so I guess I didn't think of past experiences in other games.

I don't like blind invites but I hate seeing three people standing around the same mob's spawnpoint wasting each other's time by not grouping.  It is the lesser evil in my opinion.  There is no rational reason not to accept the invite in that situation so there is no point in possibly missing the next spawn by starting protracted conversations with two or more strangers.  Blind invite it is and I really hope myself and the two others who accepted the invite tag the mob before you do.

Edit: Also, if I may bring up WoW, they eventually made most of these types of mobs such that anyone doing damage to it gets credit so you don't have to group or blind invite.

Guild Wars 2 aims to eliminate this issue by having everyone get full xp/loot if they hit a mob as long regardless of grouped / ungrouped status. WOW also switched to many named quest enemies (not all) dropping globally-lootable "chest" objects that contain the quest item with BC... 'course there are still quests where this isn't the case.

Anyway, this is a SWTOR thread, so yeah.  awesome, for real

Until that change I always took a little bit of evil glee in my quickly-created /target /cast macros that tagged the spawn for my group of strangers so those 2 non-responsive people had to sit out until the next spawn.  Granted, after WOTLK when the spawn on such mobs got to ridiculous levels it wasn't a big deal for them.. but it was still fun for me.

Enterprising farmers will blind invite farmbots and let 'em do the work for you.  I did this in WoW before they got tough on gold farmers.  I'd invite em, wait for their macro to kick in, get accepted, and just sit.

Nothing about the '3 people standing around' scenario precludes sending a tell first.

In other news, we're supposed to find out what servers we were placed on today, anyone get an email yet?

When three people are standing around, I prefer using a local "say" instead of tells to invite people.

Haven't seen the email re: guild server yet. I'm guessing they'll wait until 5pm Austin time.

I guess I don't understand the blind invite declines, if you are indeed on the same quest. If you're standing in front of a group instance and not grouped, or standing by a named spawn...why would I bother typing in a query, when I can just send an invite. I find most people are happy that I'm not trying to ks them, or they've been begging in general for a group for an instance.

What bizarro world is this where I'm the guy in favor of more grouping?

I'm not talking about what Nevermore is saying, just people in the area. And it doesn't bother me if people don't accept random invites for kill x objectives; but when someone declines an invite for a named or instance; and then either attacks the boss or continues lfg in general....it's boggling to me.

Lantyssa, I see sending someone an invite to a shared objective as courtesy. I'm not usually chatty.

Like I said, if you can't be bothered to even confirm I'm doing the same thing you're doing, I can't be bothered to group with you. That's the key, I DON'T KNOW if I'm on the same quest as you UNLESS YOU ASK. I can think of a few quests where there was a gold elite hanging around where I was doing something entirely different, but got blind invites because I was meditating after killing a group of five or whatever. If I roll up to four people standing around a dead gold elite's body, *I* will say, "Hey, want to group for this?" And then invites happen! It's amazing!

I'm fine with grouping, I just want to group with people who understand basic human interaction.

Personally instead of a tell I RP a seductive whisper.

Nothing says community building like sliding up along side someone and asking if they're into groups.

No email yet, but I did check out the BC page in the brief window that it wasn't displaying an error - it says we're on Shien.

My guild leader post to Facebook that we are on Server "Hyperspace Cannon"

Possibly because "Imperial Socketwrench" was full.  Ohhhhh, I see.

Yes, an RP server. Assuming east coast.

I still don't have an email, so I'm guessing they're still using the same service they used through beta. Best bet for EGA is to just open up the launcher, I imagine. You'll be lucky to get a timely email.  Ohhhhh, I see.

Are we on a tiny assed server, or are the lists not done populating yet?

Looking at the search tool we have like, two ~90 member guilds and one crazy huge one. Looking at some other forums people are posting lists of 500 man guilds 12 to a side on their servers.
t apparently saying the servers listed on the guild page are not final. I'm betting we're on Shien though. Because we can't have nice things.

Man if Shien is a tiny server (for now, anyway), it's totally going to get Doomhammer'd. Where the population wasn't particularly huge until they went EVERYONE ROLL ON DOOMHAMMER, THERE'S ROOM THERE and suddenly arghghghghgh wall to wall people.

I show a ton of 400+ guilds on Shien.
