Sooo, Warner Brothers is making this.  DRILLING AND MANLINESS

For those not in the loop for what "this" is. It's only one of the most awesome stories ever told.
And it started as a comment. On reddit.

Rome, Sweet Rome follows the tale of a modern day Marine Expedition Unit that gets flung back in time to the age of the Rome Empire.
So who is going to produce this crazy ass film? Well none other than Gianni Nunnari, producer of such titles as 300, Immortals, From Dusk Till Dawn and Se7en.

Here is a link to the original comment which started all this.

Article about it

This idea could be totally ruined and screwed put in the wrong hands, but with Gianni behind the wheel, he would have to be purposefully trying to fuck this up to make it bad.

edit: thanks lakov, fixed spelling

I think the intersection of people who browse reddit regularly and people who browse f13 regularly is me, you and luckton. Still the original story was pretty interesting and cool it got picked picked up as a movie.

Guns, tanks/Humvees, helicopters. Basically anything you would find on a forward marine base? is that the correct term?

I'm going to hijack your thread and ask, how the fuck do I read reddit?

It looks like a giant mess of quote trees and up/down voting. I do not understand it.

That and RES. Reddit Enhancement Suite
Browser add-on that makes reddit tolerable to get around.

I was confused by your confusion, then checked my link and people have fucked up the comment thread by replying to the parent comment to congratulate the author of the comment on his success. Went ahead and helped them down from there.

Basics of reddit are link/pic and comments. You can upvote and downvote both. Upvoted stuff goes up, down goes down.
That you likely knew. While reading comments you can clickity the little [-] between the vote buttons and the users name to collapse the comment tree down. Makes browsing through the comments pretty quick.

Long as they don't do the "final countdown" thing and not do anything.

Just watch the 60 year old Twilight Zone episode. Replace Romans and Rome with Indians and Little Big Horn.

Wonder how the original writer on Reddit got paid for the story?

My question was missing the word "much". I wonder how much he got paid.

Pretty sure I read a book with a similar premise back in the late 80s. In that case a company of soldiers got transported to another planet that resembled roughly the time of the Roman empire.

Don't remember much else, I think I liked the book quite a lot, but I was around 10 years old, back then.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Janissaries, loved the book as a kid as well.  Not quite the same plotline though.

So someone watched the Philadelphia Experiment and decided it would be cool to send them farther back in time?

Which is why Holywood bought it, because it's a story that worked already. Most big studio movies are repackaged.

Sorry, I got Philadelphia Experiment mixed up with The Final Countdown which is the one where the late 1970s era aircraft carrier gets sent back to WWII.

Wait...Reddit's EULA gives license to the site owners for ANY material you post there and creative people looking to make a living off their work still post there?   Idiots.

Reddit has said:

I believe one of the reasons for that is that we couldn't technically host your comments as you could sue reddit for infringement if some type of usage agreement wasn't in place. I am not a lawyer, but I'll ping the lawyers to check.
We're actually in the process of revamping the user-agreement, as it contains several clauses which aren't really relevant to us.

Also it would be completely against our interests to sabotage something awesome created by a Redditor. I assured the author of RSR as much back when this whole thing started.
