I think I'm going to give this an honest go over the next two weeks or so.  I've been browsing this board a little and reading a bit.  Is there anything not-gameplay wise that is useful to know about LoL as a newbie that isn't intuitive from the tutorials and basic guides?

Thanks!

Start pvping as soon as possible: don't sit in co-op vs AI.

This video explains some of the non-game stuff going on, like leveling and runes:

This game seems ideal for you Malakili. If you follow what the pros do, learn to master it, and generally put in huge effort, you can go far.

This.  The only way they could make the AI not suck is to let it cheat so you learn all the wrong things playing in that mode.

I played for a few months a year ago and recently got back into it. I found this series to be pretty good to explain a lot of base concepts:

Summoner Academy Ep 01 - UI, Hotkeys, and Smart Casting
Summoner Academy Ep 02 : Runes and Masteries
Summoner Academy Ep 03 : Lane Control and Last Hitting
Summoner Academy Ep 4 - Buying The Right Items

Solomiid.net is a good site for champ guides as well  as some good general guides. I agree with everyone, if you comfortable with your champion then go play vs people, I only use the AI games if I want to try a new champ or role I'm not familiar with (like jungle practice).

Don't bother with runes, at all, untill you can buy the Tier 3 ones (level 20 I think).

So the kids on the internet say that you're a big noise?

I read that if you can use t3 runes when < level 10 if you us the rune recycler to create them from t1 runes. But yeh don't spend any IP until your level 20.

You can buy Tier1 runes if you want. Just don't buy Tier2. Tier1 runes are dirt cheap and do help a little bit and you get a little bit of a sense of something changing when you hit each level.

I would echo the tips of staying away from bit/AI games, they will hurt more than help.  Don't be afraid to hit up other F13 people for games, some of us are very active.  Just be honest and upfront that you are new and need help and I'm sure you'll get some good real advice based off your gameplay.  If you wanted to get really crazy you could even run LOLRecorder so you can replay your matches if you need to see where you screwed up on something.

It takes a while to really get comftorable just because their are so many champions/skills to memorize so you know how to respond to them in game.

Buying the most expensive alternative skin for your champion makes you a better player.

Tier 1 runes are ok, they're dirt cheap.

Skip the tier 2 runes and go right to tier 3

Tier 1 --> Tier 3.
