So Whitey Bulger was finally caught by the FBI.  I don't normally keep up with "mafia" type news/history, but this guy's story is pretty amazing.  This is the guy that Jack Nicholson's character in The Departed was based on.  He even kind of looks like Jack, a bit.

In real life, Bulger's brother is William Bulger, who was the former president of the Massachusetts State Senate and also the President of UMass.  This is just absolutely insane for a guy that has reportedly murdered 19 people, not to mention the racketeering and drug dealing.  I find it very hard to believe that this guy didn't know exactly what his brother was up to.

And then there's how the dirty FBI agent John Connolly was in cahoots with Bulger and Flemmi for years. It's amazing the level of corruption that had/has to be prevalent to let this sort of thing happen.

And  awesome, for real motherfucking Whitey Bulger won the Massachusetts state lottery to the tune of 14 million bucks.  Really?  I think he's pretty damned lucky...

Yeah. That's the guy.  I haven't seen Brotherhood.  What did you think of it?  I just read about it the other day and because I find Bulger interesting was thinking of watching it.

I liked the dynamic between the two brothers, and Jason Isaacs makes a good Whitey subsitute you love to hate. The "Irish Community" and political maneuvering worked as well, juxtapositioning Whitey and his brother as two sides of the same criminal coin. The blue collar and white collar approach to stealing money, if you like. The only thing I really loathed was the family Soap Opera parts (to the point of wanting to fast forward when the wife of the brother appeared on the screen), but I'm quite allergic to that and it might be not as bad for other people.
