I will say I enjoyed sands of time and the reboot when I played both. I did not enjoy warrior within and turned it off after 10 minutes. I'd say that they are both worth the price, assuming you can deal with console ports.

I still want to buy The Settlers from them, but they still have that shitty DRM on it. There's already an active 151 post thread on the fact we'd buy the damn game the moment they remove it.

According to Wikipedia they're removing the always-on DRM off Assassins Creed. And not using it on the next PC-port.

The Settlers 7 is a shitty game with horribly invasive DRM. The only "awards" this award wining game won were ignoble ones. It isn't worth $5, much less $20. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID

Ah, so they put it on sale already did they? Why the hell is this still on the game after being out in the general population for 15 months?

Seems like Wikipedia is right. I noticed that the description in Steam for AC2 is missing the giant bold flashing "requires a constant internet connection to play" text. According to the Steam forums, the DRM's been neutered in AC2 - you only have to be online to launch the game. (ponders the Deluxe edition for $20)

Still not going far enough. Last I checked the initial 1-2 weeks were the most critical, so if they absolutely must be asstards and put on DRM, then it should be economically feasible for them to remove it in its entirety in anything from 1 to 6 months after initial release.

Is RUSE any good? I've been tempted to get it for awhile now and was waiting for it to go on sale.

Its pretty solid. Its sort of an RTS meets table top war game. I did a BIIF about it a month or so back when my friend really wanted someone to play it with. http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=20765.0

Be aware that the game's made to be played multiplayer but there are almost no multiplayer opponents anymore and their matchup system is awful. :/

Two games I'm keeping an eye out for on this are Far Cry 2 - if it's any good - and possibly one of the Assassin's Creed games if the price is comparable to a pint. But should I go for AC1 or 2?

AC2 is better than AC1, but it'll seem a little odd storywise. If you get 2 you might want to find somewhere to read the story for the first one.

I want Far Cry 2 for $5.00. I know it got less than stellar reviews, but it has been talked about in dev circles as having an interesting "open world, open story" feel for a FPS along with some of the best flame and fire effects in a game.
I strongly recommend AC2, and while I'm a huge fan of AC1 I also feel that one could skip it and just read the story beforehand. There are tedious parts of AC1, but I feel it was worth my time.

I'll believe that when I actually see it. The Assassins Creed series really are console games anyway rather than PC as far as I'm concerned.

I played AC1 with mouse and keyboard, and since then I got a 360 controller for my PC, so I played AC2 with the controller and it was a much better experience.

Besides, what I commented on was ubisoft going drm-less. I'll believe the next rapture will be the one before I believe they'll actually go drm-less on any games these days.

I wrote this about Far Cry 2 awhile back. For $5 it's wouldn't be bad. I'm just going to go with "what malakili said".

Yeah yeah I know DRM, consolitis, etc. Putting horribad DRM on a game for the first 6mo or year or so is something I'm actually fine with, as long as it's removed later on. Hopefully it can also serve to show them the differences in sales once it's removed.

I'm super tempted to buy Far Cry 2, it can sit in my steam list next to all the other 2 year old games I bought for $5.

So, today's Tom Clancy day.
I seem to recall some DRM issues with some of these games, anyone know of the top of their head if they've been fixed? And anyone have any reccomendations for what to get/miss? I played through the first Splinter Cell when it came out and found it a bit frustrating (the levels were extremely linear, of the "fuck up, reload, repeat until you win" variety) but I hear the newer ones are different? I don't even know what order they come in now... ugh.
And is Ghost Recon 2 any good? I have the original, thought it was fairly okay, but the only guy I know who's played number 2 says it sucks.
edit: Ghost Recon, not Warrior, :P

Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 and 2 are both awesome if you have some one to play coop with. Not really run and gun FPS very tactical. I enjoyed them a lot.
I bought Splinter Cell: Conviction, which is the newest one.
They go:
Splinter Cell Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Splinter Cell: Double Agent Splinter Cell: Conviction
Although I thought there was one between Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.
I do not see any DRM listed for Conviction.

Widescreen 1080p hack + 3D Vision = awesome Splinter Cell. Lights are a bit off, but not too distracting so far and it's one of those games where it heightens the immersion pretty well (though nothing comes close to Tomb Raider in 3D).
(I broke my 'don't spend money on steam after 10pm' rule for the $15 pack. I always liked SC on the xbox but it sucked thanks to the controller.)

Although I thought there was one between Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow is the one you are thinking of. Good game, very similar to the first game in gameplay. It was the first one to come with multiplayer, which was a decent multiplayer mode but I assume you wouldn't find many players these days.
