Isn't this the remake of Pirates! (the original) in MMOG form that we were hammering the servers on during an open beta back in November?

I remember a discussion around November of a remake of Sid Meier's Pirates, but I don't think it was related to this. I thought that was the old single-player game, with a graphical revamp. The screen shots of "World of Pirates" do look suspiciously like "Pirates" in the fonts and 2-D graphics, along with the emphasis on swordfighting. I'd be curious how this MMO version plays. It seems to support PvP, but it involves accumulation of ships and resources. With such a model, I wonder whether it will require periodic resets, or how they intend to prevent uber catassers from hording everything in the game.

Wow, that one's in 3D! Alas, we seem blessed with a motley crew of low-budget pirate game developers. It just seems a little odd that everybody's so fascinated with making sterile computer simulations of ships floating around, when everybody knows that piracy was all about rum, sodomy, and the lash. I'll pass on the latter two, and I can always get drunk without turning on my computer.
