I crossposted from the miniatures thread. Short version: I'm hoping to sell my magic cards to that store in trade for some store credit for paints and maybe some minis (this year my goal is to get back into painting minis, check out the amazing thread in the pen & paper forum with sickly talented people mostly from the f13 BB league...Iain is ridiculous). Thus far I've only been poking around their store portion, but poking around the main site, I see they have a little BB league started up, I'm guess store-owned painted teams given the setup.

LGS = Local gaming store, L in quotes because it's not exactly around the corner from me.

I just played a Feeder league game of Undead vs High Elf.

He had 3 badly hurts and a Smashed Collarbone and a broken back. 0 successful regenerations.  ACK!

The High elves had 0 casualties and scored two in a row after I had scored the first 2 TDs...  swamp poop

No fucken wonder Cad and Ginaz hate undead...

So much for being noob friendly.   why so serious?

You forgot to mention the part where I pressed End Turn by mistake. Twice! And still managed a draw. Nuffle was smiling on me tonight.

I've made Wilson's Beard entirely to make the feeder league a harder place to level up players without them dying.  Accept my challenges!

I am so tired of my Khemri team losing to teams that make endless, stupid mistakes and then are rescued by the dice time and time again. Last game: 38 knock downs, 1 armour break. I don't care if it was orcs, that's just ridiculous.

Some people are good sports, some are really fucking bad.

I couldn't find anybody in the feeder league, so I picked up my old Human team from the public league and started a game against a Nurgle team. Managed to get a really good start by knocking one of his players out with the ball 2 steps from his endzone and one of my catchers ready to pick it up for the score next turn. No big deal, the damage against his player wasn't that bad and it was only turn 3 or so. He abandons the match. WHAT? At least I kept the SPP's but why the fuck wouldn't you finish the game? Douche.

Second game was against a dwarf team and frankly this guy was one of the best sports ever. I beat him like a goddamn drum. 6-0. He got the ball in my half like once. I have NEVER inflicted so many injuries. I killed 1 slayer, and injured 4 others. By the time the game was over, he had 5 dwarves left on the pitch. It was awful for him. I even got arrogant and managed to inflict a stupid injury on my own guy racing through a tackle zone so he'll miss next game. But the guy stuck it out.

I don't think abandoning a match automatically equates to "poor sport".  I was mulling over abandoning a match between my young vamps and Teleku's dwarves because of early injuries and KOs to the thralls.  It was nearing the point of being unplayable, with the chance of me having the remaining upright members of my team picking up injuries, either from the dwarves or from bloodlust,  quite high.  Fortunately things picked up a bit for me and we were able to finish off the game, but protecting your team from further harm in an obvious loss is a valid reason for capitulation in my eyes.

Note that I'm not saying the nurgle team was right in this case; just saying it is a valid outcome sometimes.

We were 3 turns in, he'd had one casualty (a rotter) and I would have scored 1 TD. Unless he was only going to play if he won with a clean sheet, I think it was pretty bad sportsmanship.

Conceding a game you have no chance of winning is supported by the rules and I wouldn't call someone a bad sportsman just on that basis. I'd take the free win and money and smile most likely. Of course, the rules weren't written with anonymous strangers in mind, and if you actually want to play a game then having someone just give up on turn three is no fun at all. Which is why I try not to play anonymous strangers.

There is this awesome bug in the game where you get random CTDs upon entering things into the chat window. It is really awesome to be arbitrarily punished for trying to be sociable during a game. Just lost what would have likely been a hard-fought draw with my Khemri team because I was busy bantering with my opponent instead of just never talking like some kind of asocial zombie.

The ratings-based match making kind of messes with the game in a lot of ways, it isn't really designed to be played that way. The free MVPs, TDs, money, etc., are not real exciting in the MM leagues because they just mean your next opponent will be that much nastier, and people can (and do) just drop games to avoid playing bashy teams where they're more likely to get hurt without a real consequence.

Some people definitely overdo it, but I am sympathetic to people who don't want to spend another hour playing a game that they are not enjoying at all. It would be nice if they actually said so in chat before dropping, though.

Well I just lost my first ever matchmaking game with a Skaven team in dramatic, murderously punitive fashion. 15 armour breaks resulted in 7 casualties, 4 KOs, and 4 stuns, including Dead results on both my Stormverin after I had already used up my apothecary. I went 9/13 on wild animal rolls, 16/25 on dodges, and a glorious 4/10 on KO recovery, managing to start almost the entire second half of the game with 4-5 players on the field. Meanwhile my opponent did not turn over a single time, failing only one GFI and rolling 43% sixes.

A helpful graph:

That said I only lost 3-2 and I did manage to score a hilarious 3-turn td with only 4 players, which included a turn of stalling as my 10MV gutter runner ran perpendicular to the end zone, outpacing two ghouls, only to be rewarded for his diligence by the murder of the second stormverin.

All in all this has left me with the most ridiculously lopsided team I've yet fielded. My Rat Ogre has rolled two doubles (Block, Claw), my thrower has rolled doubles once (Strong Arm), and I have a single Gutter Runner with 41 SPP after 5 games. Everyone else is level 1, except my one other Gutter Runner, who just got his first skill. (He is a replacement for a GR who was killed by a rock in the team's first game.)

Which is to say, god damnit that was a nightmarish game, but Skaven sure are fun to play.

Man I just had the most unnecessarily stressful game, playing my Khemri against a Skaven team consisting of a Rat Ogre, two Gutter Runners, and a bunch of linerats. After a run of mildly poor luck massively compounded by some questionable decision making concerning what to do with his Rat Ogre, my opponent managed to get the poor thing Badly Hurt trying to dodge around on the sidelines to avoid being pushed out. He immediately used his apothecary, keeping the RO in the game, which made sense given my huge strength advantage. But he had managed to turn over -- one of my Tomb Guardians made an interception, which was typical of his luck -- and the next turn I pushed one of his linerats out of bounds, KOing it.

At this point he began to get on my case for 'raping' his team -- he named his Rat Ogre 'Gang Bang Leader', by the way, casting an extra-uncharitable light on his Internet patois -- and basically accusing me of trying to, I dunno... win or something? He seemed to think that it was gratuitous for me to potentially injure one of his players with the push-out, seeing as it was 0-0 on turn 4, I was playing Khemri against Skaven, and therefore my win was absolutely guaranteed. When I pointed out that he had one player KOed and no casualties at all, he spat back 'I HAVE NO APOTH' and proceeded with his 'I cannot believe you are such a bastard to be playing to win, you mercenary fucker' attitude.

Given my recent history with my own Skaven team I was like 'wtf?' in chat and basically told him he was playing Skaven and he might need some perspective. I suggested he could Abandon if he really wanted, and it wouldn't bother me, after he said something like 'people like you aren't worth playing.' The whole thing was just completely unbelievable on all levels.

In any case he decided to stick it out and proceeded to nearly win the game -- both his GRs had Dauntless/Block, a rather troublesome combination against my higher-strength, blockless team. I failed to pick up the ball 3 consecutive turns with my Thro-Ra, allowing him to score, and my final drive to eventually win was very sketchy -- as is most of my Khemri play, the team being 1-0-5 prior to this game. The whole remainder of the game I caused two casualties, one a MNG, whereas he nearly killed my Thro-Ra on the blitz that got him the score (thank goodness for Regeneration) and sent a skeleton out for the next game as well.

The point being, it was a really exciting and hard-fought game that would have been a total pleasure except that this guy started off by being a total, irrationally-whiny dick. If he had just never talked I would have had fun -- if he had the slightest capacity for irony about his shitty luck, it would have been even more fun. So fuck that guy, I wish he had abandoned.

venting done.

I played 1080TV Wood Elves against 1630TV Humans and was well on my way to a 2-1 victory when the game disconnected. I have never hated Cyanide and their ridiculously incompetent programmers so much. How fucking hard is it be to code in the ability to resume a fucking board game? How can you not plan for that? Not anticipate that people would want to do that?

Played my first OCC game today, Dark Elves (me) vs. Amazons. I broke armour on blocks 4 times in the entire game, achieving my only KO on a foul -- the amazons hurt themselves more frequently failing to Dodge (twice.) Despite these bizarre results I managed to pull of a 2-1 win, which would certainly have not qualified this game for the Whinging Thread except...

... that on the meaningless turn 16 after my winning score, the Amazons managed to -str one of my linemen and then straight up Dead one of my blitzers. On the two last blocks of the game.

Thanks, Nuffle.  Heartbreak

No, definitely not -- I moved him there to cover against a mass foul on the linesmen (which would certainly have occured if not for my opponent taking pity after the death), but it was a bad decision for sure.

Played Bann last night in the feeder league. My Lizards vs his Orcs. Holy crap what a terrible game! I was 1-0 down after the first half thanks to Orcs that thought they were Elves - dodging and throwing the ball around. I set up to receive in the second half and just couldn't do anything right. It was 2-0 after a few turns after a desperate, extreme range block from the Orcs took down a Skink runner who was within a turn of the Orc endzone left the ball free, the Orcs then passed the ball like they were Wood Elves and scored on the rebound. Then my last ditch attempt to score a consolation TD ended up with a fumble that scattered into the hands of an Orc who dodged again to score a third right on the whistle. My Skinks couldn't dodge let alone throw or catch, my Sauri couldn't block and every time the Orcs threw a block dice a Lizard hit the floor.

It's my first season so I'm in div 8A. Looked like a nice easy division until somebody let AndyDavo join at the last minute to cramp my Dark Elf style.
