I know a lot of people here have watched, possibly even read, and are fans of Band of Brothers. Dick Winter passed on last week from Parkinsons at age 92. The news was withheld at the family's request until after his funeral.

That's really sad, he was a true gentleman and a humble hero from the interviews I saw with him.

His book is a really good read and fills in a lot of blanks from BoB. There was a statue with documentary being filmed called the Leadership Project. The statue was of then (1st Lt) Winters and located in Sainte-Marie-du-Mont. Curt is actually the spokesperson on the project and the narrator for the film. Really sad loss.

When i hear the word hero brought up this is the first person that comes to mind. A good person to emulate from what i've seen and read. The right guy at the right place at the right time. His passing is a huge loss.

I think it's encouraging that Spielberg and Hanks have used their influence to bring unsung heros like Winters (and others) into the public consciousness.
EDIT: Thanks for the book link. I'm going to check it out.
EDIT 2: RE: BoB; It appears that Heffron and Guarnere are still alive and have a book too.

Indeed they are, they are even putting up Youtube videos helping support the Leadership Project.

I honestly cried yesterday when I read the news of his passing. He is truly a man among men.
e: His book is a fantastic read. I've read it twice, and will probably read it a third time this week.

From his interviews, and the various books I've read, he seemed like a great man.
I haven't read his book yet, I'll have to check it out.
