Went and saw this last night and was quite impressed. I didn't really know any of the story behind 'Facebook', so it was all pretty new territory for me. When I first saw a trailer for it, I remember thinking 'you have to be KIDDING me!? A movie about FACEBOOK!?', but once I heard Fincher was attached I became much more interested.

Highly entertaining, I'm not too sure on the authenticity of it all, but it's definitely made me want to know more about it. If you had told me 2 years ago that Justin Timberlake would be getting Oscar buzz for his role in a movie about Facebook, I probably would have punched you.

Have you tried the internet? It's made out of millions of people missing the point of everything and then getting angry about it

I enjoyed the movie.  It's most likely mostly fake (based on a book written by a guy who feels he got betrayed by Mark) but it was definitely well written and acted.  I enjoyed it.

The writer of The Social Network, Aaron Sorkin, recently said "I've heard of Facebook like I've heard of a carburetor". This week, he was in the media saying Facebook doesn't bring us closer together, it drives us apart. Yet he's never used it.

It may be a good movie, but I'm pretty sure it could be about ANYTHING. They used Facebook as a plot device because of the zeitgeist. If this was 1990, it would be the same story set around the fall of the Berlin Wall or something equally current. I'm going to see this to be entertained, but I don't think Sorkin has anything to say about online social networks.

Entertaining flick, even if it is a hyped, twisted dramatization of real life. Sorkin felt compelled to transform it into a tale of nerd angst over female rejection when according to accounts I've read from the parties, involved, Zuckerberg may have been a prick, but was totally focused and obsessed with building his "social network" platform. Funny that he got all the garb Zuckerberg wore correct but changed the rest of the tale around to suit a Hollywood stereotype.

Quote
Zuckerberg also talked about the accuracy of The Social Network, the film about Facebook’s early days. It’s revealing to compare what the movie got right and what it got wrong, he said.

On the one hand, Zuckerberg acknowledged that the movie got some details right. For example, “every shirt and fleece” in the movie is one that he has worn. On the other hand, he said the movie got his motivation for starting the company completely wrong. He said he definitely didn’t create the site to get girls, because he has had the same girlfriend, Priscilla Chan, since before starting Facebook.

But it still was a good flick, moves briskly, with the snippy, erudite dialogue like Sorkin did with West Wing TV series.

However, I am in agreement with this reviewer's assessment:

"Should the batman kill Joker because it would save more lives?" is a fundamentally different question from "should the batman have a bunch of machineguns that go BATBATBATBATBAT because its totally cool?". ~Goumindong
