Did 1.9 break the nether? Because we've been using the nether for awhile now on our server.

and the gate is like I TOO AM CAPABLE OF SPEECH

Did they break it?  Nether has been working for months before this.

Oh I had no idea.  Is it available on the f13 server?  I'm gonna build me a portal to hell if so!

It was working last server, I haven't tried it with this one though I assume it will.  I turned my 17 minute walk out to the castle into a 1 minute cart ride through nether.  it was neat.

Lots of fun new stuff in 1.9.2pre2.  I'm doing some single-player stuff in a more exploring than building way -- digging the occasional bedroom into the side of a hill with bed, chest, crafttable and furnace, and then picking up and moving to a new location after a couple day/night cycles.
That's how I'm playing 1.8.1 right now. Traveling and searching for a goddamned stronghold, even though I know they're underwhelming at this point. Such a cool, yet ultimately empty and meaningless, world.

I can report that Portals and Nether work fine on the f13 server in 1.8.x.

After building my portal, Jayseven built one out past Castle Bothrops and then we spent a rather silly amount of time connecting them with a safe passageway.

As a result, you can now follow a nice cobblestone path in the Nether from my portal (just a flight or two down the spiral staircase in my building) all the way to Jay's portal.

I'm tempted to try to build a fast travel network with portals and minecarts after we go to 1.9.x.

I hope you got the requisite permits before embarking on construction within my kingdom, especially if dealing with hazardous materials like those involved in building a nether gateway.

Unfortunately, the server's showing up as unavailable, so I can't get in to bribe the authorities on your behalf.

How are the monsters in nether these days?  Last I tried nether with mobs those ghasts blew up everything I was trying to build.

What were you building with? Ghast attacks blow up the native turf in a similar way to a creeper blowing up dirt, although not with the same kind of volume per detonation.

Supposedly, cobblestone can stand up to ghast fireballs. I haven't tried it yet myself, but it is a plan that I have for the future.

The Ghast fireballs destroy the netherstone but do not damage cobblestone.  Jayseven build a building around a completely unprotected portal while under fire and I dug tunnels from another portal and eventually built a 40-50 block long bridge far above magma without dying.  Building in open areas is a pain at times, but entirely doable.

I'm having problems in the Nether with ghasts below me somehow seeing me through many layers of solid blocks and start firing at me.  I was working deep in a tunnel through netherstone when i started to hear a periodic blam! Blam! Blam! Blam!  Odd I thought, I wonder why it's shooting at pig men?
The blasts kept getting closer and closer, best I could tell from the sounds, so I stopped tunnelling and started reinforcing my floor with cobblestone, which I usually do near the surface, but didn't think was necessary deep in a hill.  Suddenly chunks of netherstone floor were falling out from under me and I had to scramble to find footing and build cobblestone under me before I got dumped into the lava below!  Even once I had a solid cobblestone floor beneath be that bastard kept firing, with every second or third blast still da,aging me for half a heart even through two or three layers of stone! (I kinda panicced and built up several layers of cobblestone floor, but it still didn't seem to help.
Gave up and left the nether.  Went back in a while later and the same thing started to happen in the same place. (same ghast even? Do they ever despawn?)  Gave up and left for several days, finally going back in yesterday only to have it start up again!  wtf???

Yes, I know I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?

It's part of the breeding thing he's doing, apparently.  Feed em wheat, little pig and cow crotch muppets spew out.  Chickens just egg it up.

So I tested out egg farming (1.8.1) and I'm kinda looking forward to 1.9 breeding!  CHIKKINZ!  Only took about 2 hours from 3 chickens.

Oh god, thanks for the flashback. Our second rehearsal room was in a converted chicken barn.

Also, I'm let down that Bz came up with something sensible. I don't see any egg cannons or convoluted Rubeness! Booo!

Thirdly, those industrial mods are awesome. I kind of look forward to some kind of stability so those kinds of mods will run on the newest version.

From what I read. There is a code freeze on the 18th. Then a month of polish until release at Minecon. It has not been stated if 1.9 is gold or not. I'm going with not.
