In my single player game, I had been destroying spawners. Because I'm not some powergaming nerd.  awesome, for real Why wouldn't you think to destroy the thing popping out monsters? I suppose I should bear teh brunt of Odin's massive dookie because my first thought wasn't "hey, I'll create a mechanism that will let me farm these things for...."

Yeah, other than skeletons for arrows, I don't understand why you'd want to build a monster farm (after reading about them on the wiki when I saw anger over destroying spawners)?

Enlighten the newb. Don't worry, I hadn't destroyed any on your server and went back to SP lest I violate some unwritten law.

I never got it either, unless you are farming spiders for string.

Would anyone be interested in moving into cobra mountain(tm) with me? I'm able to get a lot of the structural stuff done but it doesn't look very pretty atm, could be a two person job.

Zombies used to drop feathers (pre-1.8), which was useful.  Skeletons also drop bones, from which one can make bonemeal, which has magical properties when applied to lawns and plants.  Spiders drop string, which can be used to make fishing poles, bows and even wool.  Creepers drop gunpowder.  Endermen drop pearls (no use yet).

Multiplayer is more fun than single.  Are there unwritten laws?

I think the only real law is "don't make a mess of a thing that somebody else built".

Along those lines if anyone dislikes my habit of connecting random buildings with underground tunnels, do let me know.  I enjoy digging tunnels, what can I say?

I don't think connecting mines is bad, I accidentally ran into someone elses mine and wound up inside their house. Left a sign saying sorry for busting through their basement.

It is amusing to see how each player acts within the world. Some, are cave dwellers or mole-men, some are coastal above ground dwellers, some are hill-folk, some even move into the nether.  I personally spend most of my time above ground building roads and infrastructure, most of my houses or buildings are on or near the water. I rarely go mining.

I build my structures all above ground, but everything is connected by underground tunnels (usually connected by minecart tracks) so I can easily get around at night.

I enjoy building into mountain-sides, sometimes ground level, sometimes high up, often both but connected.  Perhaps I am a Hobbit.

I like building tunnels to connect things, under ground, through mountains, under the oceans, whereever.

I like exploring, both the terrain and the natural caverns, as well as the crazy (or not so crazy) structures other people build.

I'd like to build elaborate machinery, but am somewhat easily annoyed at how clunky redstone is.  I'd prefer some scripting rather than build things at the gate level out of awkward building blocks.

I spend the majority of my time building up the defenses of the island I start on to make it into a habitable place free of spawns. I'm about halfway done with the wall that will surround spawn island, and eventually the dock next to the lighthouse.

Just read the last page, by destroying spawners do you mean the ones that are found in dungeons?

Also, sprint attacks? God damn am I behind on the times.

When I build, it tends to be roads.  I do work on big projects sometimes as well though.  I get lost kind of easily in Minecraft, which probably explains why I like roads and labeling things with signs.

I do like to go adventuring though, especially in this new update, there are just loads of things to find and the underground fissures and abandoned mines are really neat.

That post sounded crabbier than I intended. I blame monday and mornings.

I'm not sure my tendency. In my single-player, I've got a bunch of basic habitats with bed/furnace/workbench and I've built up around that npc village. After a while I just lose attention and go sightseeing. Then I build a road or tunnel. So far on the server I just set up a little base camp in a mountain a short distance from the main spawn island and set about mining a little in a nearby chasm (if you find a tiny survival cave in a chasm, that's it!).

I kind of wish there was more reward for exploration. Seeing some cool formations is nice, but even that gets old when there's not much to do. Crops are nice and all, but when you can just punch a few cows and get enough food for days, why bother?

Almost everything is worth farming now, at least everything that comes in spawner form. Zombies drop meat, spiders turn into wool (which you can't get reliably in large amounts any other way with the way animals work now), skeletons drop arrows and bone meal for large scale farming.

No such thing as spawners for creepers and endermen, but those are less exciting to farm - creepers drop gunpowder, which is more fun than useful, and ender pearls don't do anything at all yet.

Bit of this and a bit of that based on the DOKUCRAFT pack. I wish i had taken some screenshots of my airship yard.  I feel great accomplishment making stuff like this on a purely hostile world. That outpost is my template creation I make in various locations, its 100% defensible and sustainable. I try to work with existing environments is possible, I'm a naturalist as far as my landscape work goes, trying to keep with the 16-bit natural look with all my projects.

Don't you have problems with things spawning on top of those trees?

Nope. They are lit on top. ( internally )

I need to finish the main rooms roof though.

Spiders can scale those walls and Endermen can take them apart! Only 1 block thick!

Bonemeal makes the world go round, wheat, mushrooms, trees, flowers, grass etc. A skeleton spawner is the basis of all modern minecraft civilization!

I don't fear spiders, and Endermen would have to cross water to get to it, also, the courtyard is raised inside the wall, so its more than one block thick :)

Well, in the grassland, spiders are not really an issue. If they were, i would have added a cactus wall all the way around. I really should take screenshots of all the fortifications I have built over the past year. I have never played anything but survive and hard mode. Makes you creative.
